can't believe Latvia is still in it. They're getting completely dominated but just keep managing to keep the puck out of the net. They're goalies is pretty much dead. He can barely stand back up when he makes a save.

Does the puck need to fully cross the line or was Canada robbed? At least a bunch of the puck was over the line, but it didn't look like it completely crossed. (I'm not a hockey guy and don't know any better)

I don't watch hockey on the reg so I'm probably not the best person to ask. But like soccer I assume the entire puck has to cross the line. You probably have to see a sliver of white between the goal line and the puck.

Latvia just showed they are not a team to fuck around with. They got dominated in the stats, but they just kept at it the whole game.

yea this.

But what pissed off the Canadians was the Latvian player who pulled it away with his had. That's an automatic penalty shot and the ref so obviously saw it and just decided to not call it. which is completely BS.

Holy fuck that game nearly gave me a heart attack. Props to the Latvian goalie he played a great game. Actually I was surprised by how well the whole team played. Sure they got dominated in all stats except the score but they played a good, physical game.

did you watch the game? it did not matter whether it was 10-1 or 2-1. latvia could not generate anything against canada. it was only a matter of time before canada scored. it was a boring game to watch. friday should be exciting

2. sweden
3. finland
4. usa

although i could see finland upset sweden. nothing is more dangerous than a hot goalie

Well after Latvia almost gave me a heart attack, I am glad we prevailed.
We now have the best two semi-finals you could ask for, such good rivalries.
SWE-FIN and CAN-USA, Friday is gonna be one hell of a day.

are you serious? That was one of the most exciting games I have watched in my whole life. The latvian offense had almost nothing, but defensively they were outstanding. How can you call a game with 57 shots (for CAN at least) boring? Scoring chances left and right, with amazing plays offensively and defensively every few seconds. Plus it was a very physical game.

Yah I would love to see another CAN-USA game for gold but no matter which way these games go you know we are gonna have great hockey in every semi-final and the gold and bronze medal games.
I just like the idea that these two games are such big rivals and one team has the opportunity to deny the other team a chance at a gold, that's so much to play for

I just feel like there is going to be a shit load of hype going into these games because of the rivalries. Then there will be kind of a "step down" after the emotional high of these two games. IDK USA USA USA

clearly you do not watch much hockey. the game was completely one sided. how is that enjoyable to watch? lativia's defense consisted of their goalie. they were not outstanding defensively they gave up 57 shots and could barely get the puck out of their own zone.

it was boring hockey to watch. i enjoy watch to two teams of equal skill level go to war. not one team hiding behind a bunker just praying to withstand the attack. canada was having trouble finishing but due to latvia not being able to generate anything you knew the eventual outcome of the game. friday should be a much more exciting game to watch

Yeah, games where there is equal play in both ends are great, but this was so exciting because of the fact that no one thought Latvia was going to get anywhere. They put up a damn good fight, and kept the puck out of the net. Also, I watch and play plenty of hockey thank you very much.

I'll agree that friday should be good, however.

yesterdays game that started at 12 est took about 35 minutes a period with 15 minute intermissions. so second should start somewhere around 12:50 - 1

yup every NHL owner/fan worst nightmare. Supposedly this is the last olympics for NHL players but who knows, they kind of say that every year but they're hands are forced by big name player (i.e. ovechkin) that kind of twist the leagues arm by saying they'll just straight up leave the league if they don't allow them to play for their country

Very dumb to do that IMO. I think the level of play that you see at the Olympics makes people want to watch NHL hockey. Personally I don't watch Hockey too often but the Olympics come around and I get more into Hockey and find myself watching NHL after the Olympics are over.

maybe 34 years ago. not today. It would essentially be the best of the best in the KHL vs the best not drafted in the AHL. This is players like Kovalchuk and Radulov vs players who aren't good enough to get drafted by the NHL. no competition.

Can you back that up with anything? I would be truly disgusted if this was the case. I know that for me, and probably a majority of other people, hockey is the most important thing in the Winter Olympics. This is especially true because we get to see the best players in the world battle it out. I thought that was the point of the Olympics anyways. Not having that is just stupid.

The NHL players only started playing in the olympics in 1998, so only 5 olympic games including sochi.

There are tons of articles addressing the NHL's continued presence in the Olympics...for one the owners don't get any money, two the money they are paying players they'll still owe if they get hurt (tavares), breaking up the leage etc...

I've heard Cam Neely (bruins pres) state multiple times he is not in favor for it, and will be voting against going to the 2018 in korea, as well as the philly part owner Snider who has been very vocal against it

if they only send college/junior kids over to the olympics next time around, then I hope they don't let lebron and USA basketballs "Dream team" go to the summer olympics. it should be the same for them.

The first few paragraphs of the yahoo article show the significance of Olympic hockey. But unfortunately, as with a lot of other things it boils down to money. Well, I for one hope that we get to see NHL players battle it out on Olympic ice.

I kinda agree, i mean it makes it way more exciting, but on the other hand its putting players at risk, with no reward. Also the next winter olympics are in Korea? REally? Why the fuck do they even pick countries like this...
