And here, ladies and gentlemen, is the problem with this debate and with the current political landscape. Both sides, whether equal or not, must be given equal time. The politically correct response is to sit the fence and acknowledge that both sides have legitimate perspectives and no one's opinion is more worthwhile than anyone else's.
Bullshit.
There are almost never two equal sides in a debate. Certainly not in this one. There is reality and there is flat-earthery. There is intelligence and ignorance. This should never have happened, because it quite simply isn't a debate. It's expertise, education and reason pitted against a horde of morons, not intelligent enough to grasp the concepts being put before them (even dumbed down for the lay person) and unwilling to accept that fact.
Of course there are. There are plenty of people capable of rational thought, who aren't disposed to take the bible literally and are able to make room for both the existence of a supreme being and the theory of evolution (among others). Then you have the people who flatly ignore evidence in favour of literal adherence to a book.
The fact that evolution is a theory is irrelevant to the discussion. If you require 100% proof of anything, you can't logically believe anything, and there's no reason to believe in Christian theology as opposed to Flying Spaghetti Monsterism or Descartes' evil demon for that matter.
Crazies do not get their time on the microphone. If you have something useful to contribute, it may be heard. Every nutbar with an idea is not to be afforded equal time and it is not an affront to fairness. Lunacy should be marginalized.
