So I've been on a journey looking for a new pair of ski boots for a long time now. I just recently got an offer for some brand new Nordica The Ace 1 Stars and I might close the deal. Now before I do I wanted to hear from NS about them and if they're worth the money. I'm 5'11 about 150 pounds and I'm a intermediate level park skier. Just looking for a good boot that will be great for me to progress in the park with but still can hold really well all over the mountain and in any conditions. I'm currently riding on some old Line/Raichle ski boots also if that matters at all. +K for help and any information!
Thank you for some help? I just want to hear some reviews about the boots really. Like durability and just how others found to like/dislike about these boots.
I own the latest version of the Double Six, which is said to be the equivalent to the 1 star. I have been on these boots for the whole season so far, and this is the first time in 4 years that I have not had a problem with a boot. If they fit, they have no real comparison. They absolutely blow Full Tilt out of the water (owned drop kicks the year before) and Dalbello's are a different fitting. Back to the review though.
First, these boots are very durable. I almost chewed through my FT's in 2 weeks from various Mute grabs and mogul skiing and other things, but these boots have barely anything comparable to damage. They also have a very durable buckle, the most durable I have seen (But the Ace 1 star does not have this same buckle) so that is probably irrelevant.
Next, the shock absorbtion is fantastic, but still allows you to really get good power transmission. They really nailed it with the shock erasers. The overall boot precision is also above par, beating out my lange race boots. The Nordica's also have a very unique flex pattern that seems to be an acquired taste almost. I really hated actually flexing the boot when I skied, but it definitely grew on me once I got the chance to really push the boots. I also noticed that the boots have huge variation in stiffness just from how tight you buckle them alone.
The flex index seems to be quite inaccurate compared to other boots of the same flex. Nordica's have a special feature called flex block, which basically allows a progressive initial flex to allow easy jibbing and flex initiation, but once the space for soft flexing is used up, you can really feel the super stiff, super responsive, super powerful flex coming from them, I can only get a full feel of it when I am in my skis and it is a unique feel that is very satisfying. I definitely have to say that you should first know that you like a boot that will give you a stiff response. It is very different from Full Tilts and many softer overlap boots that I have tried. Dalbello's have something remotely comparable to feel (personal preferance), but still in a different category. *Flex is the best thing about the boots*
Next, shinbang is really non existent which i know has many factors, but when you land hard switch, shinbang can come and I have not had this problem so far even with some severe drops I did not think i would get out of.
If there are anymore questions just ask because I am burnt out from a ton of make up work and have trouble focusing right now
