Origin of marriage?

Where/how/who did marriage originate from? Did it begin as a religious/spiritual practice? Or an instinctual practice to ensure the survival of an offspring? There's a lot of crap going around about marriage, divorce, gay marriage, it's ties to Christianity, etc..

Id like to know where it started and how it came to be as it is now.

Any thoughts?

Pretty sure it was invented last week, some bros in the bro-lab, combined highly volatile compounds together and marriage was founded. Everyone has been given the memory of its eternal existence. But hey, whats my truth against everyone elses.

Look up antiquity marriages through the renaissance ages. That is were most concepts of marriage originated. Here is a sparknote: marriage was based on wealth and fortune, not love or sex.

If evolution is true then homosexuality is clearly part of it. Or so said Aristotle, who noted that both masturbation and homosexuality are part of natural selection. Which makes sense because you obviously aren't reproducing when you partake in either of them.
