supporting the industry?

I would like to metion that 4frnt is made in the US. How many other ski companies can you name that do that. That naturaly makes their product more expensive. Supporting the industry means you suport the companies that give a shit about our little niche, the ones that understand what we need and want. It does not necessarily mean 'Core' companies, but those are generaly the companies that care the most. The thing witht the poles is that there is now a pole out there made by people in our industry, if you want to buy your rental poles thats cool, but I would hope that I you were to Brand new poles you would buy from a company that is working with our 'niche'.

this is all good stuff.

how about the way you represent our niche when you're out skiing or whatever? that can be a big part of support.

yea I'm all for supporting the core newschooler companies, only as long as your not breaking your bank or compromising quality

understand that other types of skis, quality racing skis or quality big mountain skis, will run you into the thousands. so a quality twintip at 600 isnt the end of the world; plus there are deals out there, start looking.

i am all for supporting those who support us, it is the logical thing for us consumers to do in order to keep our indusrty afloat. however, this doesnt mean that we have to buy everything newschool. i mean, there are now tons of independant hat companies. come on, whats next...newschool sock companies that we are compelled to by from?

and the joystick issue..im on the fence about. it seems like joystick is in the newschool industry just to be in the newschool industry. what im getting at is that we need newschool skis because they perform differently than regular skis. we need newschool outerwear and apparel to express our style, rather than wearing normal ski gear. but where is the distinction between normal ski poles and joystick poles (other than the hefty price tag)? somebody fill me in. until i am told that they are a very advantageous pole for the newschool skier, i dont really want any part of joystick.

the price factor in everything skiing has to do with how small this thing still is. Manufacturing costs, liability insurance and salarys are all rediculous, with no hope of relief... I dont really have enough knowledge to start plunkin away a story here, but the only thing I feel comfortable saying about this is, to go get a job, and save your money for the things you want. It'll be good for you, to build up a work ethic and a sense of pride in the fact that you know what you had to do to get new gear for the season.


as far as the supporting the industry thing goes, Screw this industry. Its a business. and businesses are out to make money. If a business isn't out to make money, they are being un ethical towards the people who work for them. To support business like a cause is kind of an oxy-moron. It's not like these people are out to change litigations to make skiing cheaper, or to allow for the cutting and development of new areas. No, these companies are out to make money, sure, doing something they love, but to make money non the less.

Supporting the industry is strappin' on a pair of twins and doing whatever the fuck you like, no matter what company's gear you have....this is a good post but those others on supporting these upcoming companies are bullshit, it's a buisness, it's a cutthroat game, and all the kids on this site buy into all the hype around these companies......buy whatever you like, not what some 12yr old says is a good ski, cause they really don't know shit! anyway good post

I'm with fluff on this one, supporting the industry blah blah buying from core companies blah blah. It's just more hype for you kiddies to eat up thinking your making a difference. Soon enough there will be even more and more independant industries targeted to sell to the 'newschool skier' demographic. How are you gonna support all of them? Do you have to sit in the store and decide which company is more 'core' before you buy shit? No, buy the best cheapest product no matter who makes it. Which is supporting good business ethic. I want to support the companies that sell the cheapest and highest quality products.

I'm with fluff too. Yeah I'm all about supporting the industry. But I got priorities and cash is being one of them. Core companies are great but other companies that arent as core are doing great things too for the industry (aka sponsering riders, events, name it...). If I can get a hand on some Scott poles that are as good as Joystick poles and cheaper I'm gonna go with the first one's.
