Ski industry and $50 000 a year? Good luck, you'll have a better chance working rigs for six months and do a part time job at a ski hill.

Option #1:

Become a professionally liscensed engineer. have plans/designs sent to your home office(located at a resort), analyze them, comment/stamp, get paid 2,3,4 times the amount you just mentioned.


Option #2: Get jacked and tan. Get multiple Personal Training certifications and get a trainer gig at a swanky gym. advertise to your gym clients that you also give private ski lessons, and guide backcountry tours. Learn to market yourself, learn how to become a good conversationalist and you can make a ton of money.

You could either start your own business within the industry and be successful, or you could get a job working for Vail, Salomon,K2, etc., and work your way up the business ladder. I'm sure the CEO of Vail makes a lot.

You are wrong, except maybe the part about salaries for marketing positions in the ski industry. However, a career in marketing can provide a very comfortable lifestyle. (Yes, salaries are based on Canadian dollars. No, it doesn't make that big of difference)

I've been looking into this for a while now, what I've found is that ski resort are looking for millwrights. In the united states the average salary for millwrights is between $50,000 and $80,000 http://www1.salary.com/Millwright-Salary.html. Now ski resorts may pay less because there won't be as much work as working at a mine or mill. Good luck with the job search

If you can make 30-40k in the 7-8 months of summer and no snow than it doesn't matter what your ski job is if you even have to have one.

Cruise ships, golf courses, oil rigs think jobs like that. Even a good bartending gig in a summer destination spot could earn you a lot.

I actually know landscapers that will turn about $50k during the summer months and then take at least 5 months off to collect unemployment and shred nonstop.

i met one of the guys who helped design/develop the k2 boots. he was a engineer specializing in plastics. he said he had 30 straight months of winter testing boots. dunno how much he gets paid but i imagine its half decent with unlimited supply of skis and boots

My dad used to do marketing for American skiing company back in the 90's when they owned a bunch of resorts and made over six figures.

His current position as a VP of marketing for a different company in the hotel industry pays him over half a million dollars a year.

Yes, you can make money doing marketing.

It's hard man. Keep in mind that a clear majority of the locals at any resort/ski town will be college graduates with resumes as good or better as you. There is only so much demand for white collar jobs in these areas dominated by the service industry.

Either learn how to out-hustle people and become an entrepreneur or become complacent making much less money than your degrees justifies with multiple shitty service oriented jobs

I guess I was thinking more South Dakota. The average wage for a marketing specialist is $50,000 per year pre-tax. We have a lower cost of living though than a lot of states, so I guess you could make more than $50000 in other states. But you would end up making around the same due to the cost of living. Also it depends on what company etc..

I work in as an IT Analyst in data center in CO Springs. Moved out here for this job from Indiana. after i graduated from college in may 2012. Make ~60k a year. Best part is I work 3rd shift 4 day work weeks. Get 3 days to ski(Sunday's/Monday's are my jam). The dream is possible just go to a "real" college and get a "real"(NOT ART/LIB ARTS/ETC..) degree.
