My friend and I have the same bsl and I'm going to use a pair of his skis, I have the same bindings as him FKS 14, Is it okay to take his binding off of the ski and put my binding back into the same holes only using wood glue? the skis have multiple mounts on them I think 2 other sets of holes which have been filled in
Yes basically we have same bindings and same boot, the holes are drilled exactly how I would drill mine brand new, except he has been using those holes for about a season, what I would have to do is take his bindings out and put my bindings in my question is would it be okay to just screw mine in with wood glue as in would my binding stay in and not pull out if I used the old holes
Be really careful when putting the bindings back into the old holes. Reusing the same holes runs the risk of stripping the hole and definitely doesn't have the same stability as a first mount does. If you strip a hole look up heli coils. They are life savers.
Stay away from the drill and do it by hand. Don't be afraid to apply a ton of pressure with your screwdriver but GO SLOW. Heli coils really are the way to go^ if that doesnt work out
No, not much downward pressure on the screwdriver when reusing holes, only when screwing into fresh holes because that's when you're cutting the threads into the ski. When reusing holes you'll be reusing the threads that are already cut. Best to set up your screws like normal so that they're protruding from the binding baseplate just 1-2mm then sit it in place. Push down a little on the screwdriver while turning it backwards (unscrewing, counter-clockwise). You should hear and feel a click once per rotation when the ski thread and screw thread line up. Just after you feel that click on a backward rotation screw it in normally and slowly without much downward pressure and you're gold.
Woof glue, epoxy, whatever you want. I've had no issues with either on several remounts into the same holes. Just go easy with the final tightening especially if it's a non-metal ski; it's easy to overtighten and strip the holes.
I'm no ski technician but if I were you i'd bite the color issue and use the black FKS to save some of the integrity of the ski. seems silly to unnecessarily unmount and remount
