How does one become a ski designer?

NS, I am at a bit of a crossroads in my life. I am majoring in industrial design, is this the right major for ski design? I'm thinking a minor in materials science would be helpful, but I don't really know what to do. I am passionate about skiing, and ski's in general, and being a designer would be a dream job. I went to design school with the intent of being a car designer, but right now that's not probable. Anyone know? Any industry guys willing to help me out?

Your education is great, but crafting skis is a unique process that (to my eye) is getting more unique and specialized all the time.
Experience and connections will be key.
Try interning anywhere you can.
Design a lot and start working on building your own skis--build a portfolio of designs and work. Test your shit.

I bet it'd be so much work but you should try and create your own pair of skis. It'd be the best possible thing to have in a resume.
