Alright so...

Curiously, dont the shops have machines that check to certify the bindings DIN tension is up to certified levels? I always thought that was what they had to do prior to mounting? IDK.

And 13.5 isnt all that burly especially for a normal-bigger sized man. DINs on here are deflated because its a bunch of skinny teenagers/college kids. Once this generation starts filling out(assuming their level of riding stays about the same) they will be bumping up their DINs to this level on a pretty regular basis.

And lets be real, you dont mount heavy ass P18s on anything but a hard charging ski meant to blast through chop, chunder, and crud at speed and to stomp hefty airs.

True that, I ride at a 11 and I'm 5'10" and 175 lbs. I could see someone bigger (and better at skiing than me) riding dins around 13.

Thanks for the help!! I appreciate it. Thanks for the concern too but I normally run my bindings at 14-15, its just that there isn't much snow around these parts so I'm well aware of what it takes for a binding to let me go at that level and what it will keep me in for.

I work in a shop, we have a machine that can test the bindings. 13.5 is a pretty high din though. The highest the binding chart ever recommends is 12.

When you put your din higher than 12ish, even if you are a bigger guy, you're putting yourself at risk of a knee injury.

I ride at 10. Am i tough?

I am aware of that. I am 6'4" 200lbs and have my dins that high on my "charging" skis. I have moved my dins up periodically through the years as needed. Last year i blew a ski off twice with a 13 DIN will trying to carve hard across thhe fall line to either scrub a little speed after landing a cliff into crud, or while trying to just charge. If i happened to not be in a wide open bowl at the times i would have had some serious issues crashing at that kind of speed on that steep of a face.

Its a give and take for sure, but the way i ski and the type of terrain i get into on those skis warrant a little extra security even at the risk of my knees/legs. I usually try and ski very "light" even when charging so a lower din works for me 95% of the time. But its those times when you are at the edge of your ability and are putting every ounce of power you have into your skis that you REALLY need them to stay on. Its really a "Price is Right" trial and error thing- gotta start low and incrementally go up as needed, but bad things happen if you go over.

I am at a comfy 11 on my daily cruisers and pow skis though and they do just peachy.

I would say just go to a shop and have them figure it out with the tester. However, the tester at my shop isn't even calibrated for any values above 12 or so - whatever the highest value on the chart is. DIN technically doesn't even certify any values above 10...
