i have a 7D bought it back in 2011 and still loving it but been thinking about buying a 5D Mark iii, jus wanted know your thoughts on it

Dislikes...? None too serious.....the weight of it when paired with an L series lens. Great battery life, amazing focusing system, isn't the greatest at low light however, but still pretty good. Great for video. If I wasn't saving for moving out I'd buy one, but I get to use them everyday at college. So much better than the MK II.

I have been using it for about a year now for both photo and video and love it. Its pretty amazing in low light. I have used the 1DX quite a bit as well and actually prefer the 5D3 over it.

i don't wanna switch, i said my friend was talking about it one day cause he fucks wit Nikon Probs... i was jus seeing what other's people thoughts on it, i don't want Nikon when i've already dropped a shit ton of money into my Canon

stick with canon, the 5d3 trumps the d3x for sure in resolution, size, weight, and performance.

I've been shooting a 5d3 for over a year now and I love mine. Really solid camera, has survived a ton of what I've put it through, has great focus, low light, and other bonuses that make it a real workhorse for me.

$3K for the ability to shoot professional photos and video.  I'd seriously disagree.  If you use this professionally you should be able to pay your camera off fairly quickly.

3K is like half a years worth of rent for a lot of people.. Perhaps my mindset is more frugal than you guys, but 3K+ for a single DSLR body is nuts when you consider how much you need to spend on top of that to make it really worth it.

Yeah, if you're an ACTUAL pro and it's your full time job, sure why not. That said, most people I know who have them are hobbyists or wannabies with a lot of expendable income.

The only cheaper camera that is worth shooting professionally would be the 5d mark2. it costs half of the 5d3 (used). You COULD shoot something professionally with something 1/6th the price I suppose, but I personally would not use any of the canon crop cameras.

Video on something 1/6th of the price is easy to do. That's what I was more alluding to.


...and for photography, you can just shoot film. Spend 1/3rd of that on a medium format setup and go to town with two grand worth in film.

Seeing anybody shooting dedicated video with a 5d is a facepalm at this point, as snobbish as that sounds. A $500 GH2 still puts them to shame.

And as much as I think FF digital looks like crap compared to film - scanning is a huge pain in the ass, so I can totally see the price tag being justified by the demands of a working environment. You photographers complaining about a "measly" $3k price tag make me laugh.

video is a different story. For photography though, 5d2/5d3 are the way to go. I miss my 5d2 sometimes

Finally, a film snob who understands this. As much as I love shooting film, the look, the IQ, etc. my job requires me to shoot and deliver photos every day in a timely manner. Unfortunately this means digital, and it's a workflow I'm used to shooting and can work well with. I gladly pay the "high" price tags because I know performance comes at a price.

And +1 on the laughable 3k = pricy comments.
