Moving onto wider skis...

This may seem like a silly concern/question because of what I see alot of NSers riding.. but I'm actually buying my first pair of skis next season and I'm a little hesitant to move onto wider skis.

This season I'm riding rented Line Masterminds.. this would be my absolute last choice but it was the only option to rent and I didn't have the funds to buy skis. Considering my preference of riding is BC/Glades these skis are probably pretty ridiculous.. but I like to think that if I'm comfortable on other skis I should be comfortable on these. I can ski pretty much anything on the east coast, and I went over to CO before christmas and felt pretty confident in some of the harder trees/bowls at breck, vail, a-basin, and keystone.

I'm starting to think about my options for next season and I feel like something in the upper 90's in waist and with some rocker in the tips/tails would suit me best, but I feel weird about getting something like that when I see the things everyone around me is riding (home mountain is Mt. Creek but I go up to Gore Mt. most weekends).

Any assurance/advice/reccomendation/whatever you wanna tell me to help me out would be awesome to make me feel a little better hahaha.

P.S for ski reccomendations I'm 5'10ish and growing and around 135 lb.

First! Do it. The mastermind is like 85mm and you are talking about getting something closer to 100mm so you really won't notice the difference. Even a 105 is less than an inch wider.

I should also mention that I being where I live, these will need to have some park capabilities (atleast near symmetrical and twin tips) but I'm obviously not looking for a dedicated park ski.

Really depends on how much park you want to do with it. Also, don't be afraid of a wider ski. They are seriously fun, I ride a 110 waist ski every single day in CO, and probably won't ski anything less than 100 anymore.

the 97-100 range seems good for you if you are actually splitting it 50 park 50 all mountain. If it's around 30 park 70 all mtn, you could go to something a bit wider, around 110. Still fun in the park, but more fun to rip all mountain on. It's really up to you. Try and go demo a few pairs of skis!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I think I'll stick more to the 95-105 range and to give some perspective I'd say it's probably 60 all mtn 40 park.

Ohhh... I forgot to mention.. I also need recommendations on bindings. I've heard mostly good things on solomons, but don't know anything based on specific models. Thanks!

Soul riders or jeronimos, both are a little wider and can do park and all mountain

I wouldn't be worried at all about moving into a wider ski, they are super fun. I ride and would definitely recommend rossi scimitars, 99 underfoot and full reverse camber. Took me like a day or two to get used to but they handle everything from ice to crud just fine. I think rossi stopped making them this year but you could still find a pair from last year and there are plenty of similar skis out there. you'll be fine whatever you choose!
