Seriously what did the announcers say about Bob Costas and slopestyle ...tell me someone else caught that. Like he mumbled it so I couldn't hear it all
Yeah dude that's messed up. His last switch hit, I thought it was gonna be a casual 7 or something cause there wasn't much pipe left, then he throws switch dub!?!? wtf, that was nuts
I get the feeling the judging is being done as unsubjectively (it's 4am here, I've forgotten half my vocabulary) as possible, or at least that's the message I got from the head judge repeatedly saying it's all about the riders average height, which is a calculated unambiguous number. It's shit, it means things like style are getting pushed completely out, but what would you expect.
What do you guys make of David Wise saying he's treating the x games as just a warm up for the olympics?
I really wish they had real street or whatever for skiing instead of just snowboarding. It would be refreshing to see a rail only event just based on style.
yeah it was getting a little odd. pretty sure I heard st one point "thats 4 inches higher than his last run; thats got to help his score"... wft has this come to
I mean why wouldn't you take it easy for the xgames when the biggest event of your skiing career is next month, no one wants to get hurt. I'm thinking that slope will be similar but hope fully those that aren't going to Sochi can do some sick shit.
How the fuck did bowman get bumped with one on the sickest runs I've seen in a pipe and currier got a fucking 90? Riddle and Torin should have been above him as well.
why would you not want to go all out in the qualification? not much sense in taking it easy if it's not going to put you in the finals. In moguls, there are basically like 3 guys who tone down their jumps in a world cup qualifier, and that's only on some courses. Everyone else goes all out, because they know if they don't, the other guy will, and make finals instead.
I think way too much emphasis was put on amplitude. I get it, they want people to go big, but tech and style is not getting enough credit. Bowman's run was so insanely sick, same with Riddle.
Don't get me wrong Lyman had a good run and should qualify but I did not think it was deserving of third place. The last few riders to drop got insane bumps in their scores. I thought it was pretty bogus how high certain people were scored and then Bowman didn't make finals??? Totally fucked. Love his style. I get that scoring is subjective but g-damn! I really question the bias of some of the judges.
Scratch that, after snowboard slopestyle it's pretty obvious how subjective the judging still is.
Like, both Billy Morgan and Mark McMorris had weak rail sections (Billy had 'easy' tricks but did them well, Mark did harder tricks but some of his landings were sketch), they both did triple corks, though Billy reverted on one of them. One of Marks other doubles was a dub wildcat (the 'easiest' double). Billy had three more technical doubles, all perfect. Yeah sure, the revert on the landing of the triple Billy did was enough to lose some points, but a 20 point difference? Maybe because his run was second and he did a triple the judges were like 'everyones gonna throw triples' so down marked him.
Kinda bummed that Morgan didn't make finals. Super clean run even though he reverted out of the triple. Looked like he had room to maybe triple more than one jump if he wanted to. Dude got shafted dropping 2nd.
