Physics egg drop project?

What's up newschoolers! My favorite source of advice. I assume some of you have done the classic eggdrop project, and mine is this Tuesday. We're dropping it from 6 meters.
The requirements are:
At least 250 grams
Maximum dimensions can be 20cm x 20cm x 20cm, but bonus points for making it smaller
No food, foam or other "professional packaging" materials
No drag apparatus
Must hold two large eggs

Anyway, if you guys have any advice or past projects you've done it would be much appreciated! :)

does it have to be reusable? i did one where i glued lots of thin wooden sticks pointing different ways on the egg and it worked.

If you can, make a parachute. It decreases the velocity on the way down. That way it won't bounce, and the momentum won't change quite as much. Also, the parachute will allow it to have a smaller acceleration which will decrease the force on the egg. F=ma
I can't believe I just have a serious response in nsg, but this could be helpful.

I thought of a similar thing, but putting the egg in a balloon so it barely floats.

Can you elaborate on this with the rubber bands?

Make a cone with some paper, put some coins in the point of the of the cone so it falls straight down. pad a little and make a pouch for the egg, the cone crumples but the eggs should be fine.

Grass clippings in a small container to cushion eggs then get legos or the snap together rods little kids play with and build a box out of them around the container. They will break apart on impact and soften the fall of the container.

HOLY CRAP! That really hit my childhood hahah I would watch that show for dayyss! Funny thing is, I'm from Salem Oregon, maybe my past self was trying to help my future self for this project! Haha thanks for posting though, seriously brought back some good memories. I actually recall watching this very episode

you have 20cm to work with so ~7 inches of tube. A toilet paper roll is to small so chop a paper towel roll to size. You can use paper towels, newspapers, doesnt really matter. The egg should be placed I'd say 3/4ths of the way up the roll so you maximize impact absorption. Make sure you dont pack the cushioning paper to tight or you risk the egg breaking on impact.

If you need to be able to see the egg or some bull shit cut a small window that allows you to see them.

Make sure your stabilization fins are large enough to keep the projectiles trajectory true. You may need to add some exterior weights towards the tip of the projectile in order to change its center of gravity, such as coins taped to the outside of the paper towel roll.


Obviously test your shit before showing up till its perfected

I just thought of this idea, in a large yogurt container add saltwater, put eggs in (they float in the saltwater, but not by a lot), then add a cone to the bottom of it with tissue inside for the initial blow. Then just ducktape the top so it doesn't leak. Think it could work?

use pantyhose and tie that shit to opposite corners of a box surrounding it and use rubberbands to secure it so the eggs don't move up and down in the box or touch each other. We had to launch ours in a catapult and it didn't break haha, i think i have pics somewhere if you want them

Did this shit in 5th grad from the top of a cherry picker. I won.

What you need:
2 Big ass boat sponges
1 Newspaper
1 Lunch box (not the metal kind the soft kind)

Put the egg between the two boat sponges. Tape together. Fill bottom of lunch box with crumpled newspaper. Place sponge/egg combo in lunch box. Surround with remaining crumpled newspaper. Drop egg. Claim Victory.

Just put a hot plate on the ground and drop the eggs directly on to that. While everyone else is worried about grades and success you can be enjoying a delicious omelette.
