I could use a trick tip or two about flat 3s too. I got something flat/rodeo 5:ish on lock on snow but I just can't flat 3 on snow somehow. I had them a year or two ago.. Maybe I'm just retarded or something
How did you throw it on a tramp? I learnt backflips on a tramp a few weeks ago (fucking kicking myself.....why did it take so long to get the balls?!) and I would love to do a flat 3.
I tried grabbing once. It stopped my rotation and i dropped straight down on my head. Well, I rolled onto my neck and I was fine. But it still scared the shit out of me.
thats because you did not set your flip right. Its important that your hips are what starts your rotation and not your head.
Make a clear take off on the lip and make sure you start the flip before you grab it. What make the japan a nice start is one shoulder drops on the take off and makes the flip off axis.
It's all in the hips. When you take off, push one hip more forward than the other as if you're trying to get that leg and side of your torso all on one plane. Grabbing japan helps with your upper body placement as well but by no means is a backflip with a japan grab a flat 3.
talking about flat3s, do you guys throw them the same side as your 3s, 5s...and (i would assume) rodeos? A buddy told me that it would be better to throw flatspins unnatural so that its easier to distinguish them from rodeos but throwing the opposite way i would go for a cork or rodeo/misty kinda stops my rotation. Was my friend's suggestion stupid? should i throw them on the same side as any other rotations???
This is a trick you can work into from a lincoln or backie with out having to fully commit. Start with a backflip and start grabbing japan. Also helps to start taking off the lip a little crooked it will help with the rotation.
Flat 3 is my favorite trick, so Ill try to help.
1)Make sure you have it dialed on tramp. If possible, take it to airbag/ waterramp/ chop/ powder.
2)Carve off the jump when you set it. This is an important tip as it helps you set the rotation off axis.
3)You might land sideways. you probbably will land sideways. this is due to the carve off the jump and you coming to the landing on an angle. use your hips to resist this urge and land forwards.
4) Throw a japan in to help drop a shoulder.
5)stomp it
So disappointed. I was ready to learn a flat 3 but the conditions were bad so I could only hit one ugly hip jump. Broke my radius and now I'm out for the season. Guess I'll wait for MHSSC this summer.
Pretty bad. 3.5mm plate and screws and a pin at the wrist. 3 month recovery so I may get one spring day in. Really hoping this doesn't have long-term effects though in terms of bone weakness and increased likelihood of future breakage.
for me personally flat 3 clicked when I realized it had to feel more like a backflip than a rodeo, I always had trouble spinning to five instead of just flipping essentially..
I really just backflip and lean my head / shoulder to the left (or right) as I start to flip, then bring your hips around and stomp!
I mean you can do whatever floats your boat but it will be far easier for you to learn them your natural spinning direction. And about "distinguishing them from rodeos," that's pretty stupid. A flat 3 is a flat 3, there should be no mistaking it with a rodeo. A 5 is a different story, as flat 5s and rod 5s are basically identical, so at that point it hardly matters in distinguishing between them.
