Mt. Superior

Hey guys,

Looking to climb the south ridge of Mt Superior either tomorrow or Thursday if weather conditions hold. I have never done any routes on Superior and looking for some advice on route selection or what the best way to summit is. Any help is most appreciated!

Went up this morning. Snow conditions were pretty variable, some east-ish aspects of the south face still had good snow. Definitely was a blast and looking to go again.

Anybody know how the snow conditions for "Hypodermic Needle" off of Thunder Ridge are now? Need a lot of snow for it to be rideable?

How are the conditions on Lone Peak right now? I'm thinking of splitting it up into a two day trek and attempting the NE face during the next full moon assuming weather and stability are prime.

For two days I think it should be alright. I like the really long hikes its fun in a weird way. Have you done it?

Yeah man over two days you'd be straight. I've only done it in the summer. Some friends of mine have toured up that way but did it in a day, so they literally had to leave at like 2am and start with headlamps and all that. There was a report on the UAC from Pfeifferhorn/Red Pine today that said there were sections of no snow, hiking required, etc... I'd imagine l lone peak would be the same

LONE PEAKS 5-6 K FROM WASATCH BLVD
Shouldn't take 2 days
big willow cirques imposin and requires a significant time in a large steep avvy prone cirque
aint no reduced exposure ridge route

Yeah, you'd probably want to hit that in these next couple days. That cirque approach could be pretty sketchy after this next storm cycle.

why do you say that? I'm not super familiar with the approach but I know the Cirque area.

My plan is to wait for another good storm cycle, monitor the snow pack (I'm sure it will be shit and I'll have to wait a week+ for things to stabilize), and head out when a ridge of high pressure moves in.

In the meantime, anyone know any summits that don't require rappeling? Baldys?

Bringing in the new years and heading up Mt. Superior around 4 tomorrow morning. Anyone want to come?

Probably sending Tanner's Slide path the day after if anyone wants to tag along for that.

This is a long shot but any help would be appreciated.

Anyone have any beta on the La Sal's right now? Forecast is looking good as of now for a possible weekend trip.

My tentative plan is to climb Mt. Peale from the southern side and descend on the northern. Base camp will be at Medicine lakes. What's the coverage like? Crampons required for southern ascent?
