Olympic Uniforms Confusion

So I was reading threads about Sochi and was actually surprised that a lot of people wrote something about freeskiers having to wear their country´s uniform...
I always thought they were (in our case) only for walking around at the olympic village and so on, not for actual skiing. Also Bene Mayr said a few times that they could´ve never made a slopestyle/pipe team if they had to wear uniforms.
Now I´ve read some comments about how sponsors are forbidden at the games and that the US team definetly has to wear them and all of this doesn´t make any sense anymore.
So are the uniforms really just for everything besides skiing, is it simply different from country to country or did the german skiers just changed their mind about their clothing policy?

Pretty sure they have to wear the uniforms during their runs. Olympics is ALL about Reppin your country. Sucks to be on the American snowboard team, their jackets look like ugly homemade quilts haha.

They ski and compete in their uniforms just like any other sport at the olympics. Look at the Vancouver 2010 snowboarding athletes in pipe

I'm sure the uniforms for actually competing will be different though, and tailored to the individual sport. Burton made all the team uniforms for the snowboarders these last years didn't they?

I am pretty sure that the germans don't have to wear this ugly Bogner jacket during competition but Bene will do it because he's officialy on Bogner since some weeks. But I don't think that Lisa and Sabrina (if she will get the spot in pipe) will do too.

Why does this matter if sponsors are banned from the olympics? It's just a coat and some pants.

They should have given everyone one pieces that are the flag of their respective countries, That would at least make sense if the purpose was to be identified by country.

they have a whole wardrobe of select apparel for around the olympic village, etc.. during the events, they will have the jacket and pants on that TNF made. RL for village wear. surprised people are not up in arms about TNF's manufacturer not being in the US.
