With every argument, I'm a big fan of playing Devil's Advocate. So this thread is for you people who are just gushing with excitement and can't get enough. I'll even start it off by posting some positives:
Bringing new money into the sport. I have to admit to all of you, over the last two weeks Newschoolers has landed some pretty big advertising spends based around the Olympics. Hell, the updated NSTV Producer program, the NS Journalist program and the soon-to-come Photographer program got an immediate stimulus benefit from the revenue coming in the door, and will continue to get it for another month. Lots of athletes, media, etc are going to get paid.
Theoretically when I talk to people after this they will stop saying "Oh so you snowboard?" when they find out I'm a skier thats into cool stuff. Most people who aren't directly in the know just don't even process that Skiing is cool again. They think of it as dorky, serious racing, Classic structured Freestyle and some weirdos sliding around snow shooting at stuff.
More people than ever are searching for Slopestyle -
and fuckin' A are we going to wow the world.
It'll certainly be a lot more acceptable for a kid to decide he wants to ski the park when he's younger, as parents no matter how lame will be able to say "Oh my kid wants to be an Olympian!" .
