Ok, so who's in the US Olimpic team after all?

I just don't get the criteria from FIS/USfreeskiing... Does anyone know? I heard there are only 4 spots per country?

I'm pretty sure the full team announcement is this evening. Rules are weird. Goepper, Brown, M.Bowman, Dlogan, Brita, Keri Herman, and wise have spots.

Wally needs about four miracles to get a spot.

This will help but it doesn't include results of yesterdays comp.

Yeah tom's gonna go as long as he wants to basically. Coach will say "do you want to compete" tom will say "yes I do" and he'll get the discretionary pick.

If tom doesn't get that pick, it will be because he doesn't want to compete and I don't see why he wouldn't want to so he'll be there. The same thing with torrin, if he feels good enough to compete he will also get a discretionary pick.

The official team will be announced this evening.

Look up the team starts rule. It's 26 spots out of moguls, park, pipe, aerials, and skier cross including both men and women. I don't know the state of moguls, aerials, or skiercross but I doubt any team will be able to use all four of their spots per gender per event.

but if only Goepper qualifies by FIS rules, does that mean US will only get 2 skiers? Goepper and the coaches pick?

Frankly the way he has been skiing I'm not sure he deserves it. We have all said he seems like he has been skiing like he doesn't care. Well if his actions say he doesn't care and he doesn't have the results then he doesn't deserve to go. Now hate away since I dared question Tom.

There's 3 for men's slope so far. Brown, Goepper and Mary O just reported that Gus locked up a spot today.

The criteria for every country is different.

The US Team for men's slope will MOST LIKELY be:
Goepper
Bobby
Gus
Tom

Idk about women.


Pipe is a little bit more up in the air.
Wise (has a spot locked)
Blunck
from there its super tight between Simon, Lyman Currier, Alex Ferrara (sp?), and Gus

and still idk about women

yep, we're really bad, it's okay though Teller is good and the sport will probably die after these olympics.


according to this though, it is by sport not the larger discipline of "freestyle" though?

As much as I like Joss and Aschlopy, this is the scenerio I hope yo see. But damn its hard. Joss and Aschlopy just killed it!!!

I'm bumming hard that the Dumont got hurt! Such a veteran icon of the pipe and has endured so much and persavered. Very sad. Hoping for a miracle and he competes tonight.

So I think for slope it's geopper, bobby, and gus for sure, they got 2 podiums
then I geuss it would probably be joss for the 4th unless wally gets discretionary pick, but to be honest.
Joss, in 2014, is better than wally.
wally has been doing the same 3 jumps for 3 years or so, with the same grabs,
Joss on the other hand does indeed the same jumps, but he has much sicker grabs and his rails ar not that bad either
personally I think Joss should be the 4th skier and not wally,

I doubt any of the skiers who make the olympics will be doing the same tricks at the olympics that they did this weekend. These grand prix's are their "qualifications" but i think to land on the podium at the olympics your run will have a triple.

Tom won't go to the olympics and throw the same dub 12, sw Rdub10, sw Ldub10.

yapp. based on their current skills it should really be joss if only 4 spots are available.. but with north face as a main sponsor and nbc in the background i highly doubt that tom won't get picked..
to believe that the coaches choice will only be based by their opinion without any corporation's influence is a bit naive.

First off, i think it's stupid to have only 4 people per country who can go to the olympics. I mean only in the US, there are 7 or 8 guys who can podium and who i feel are pretty much on the same level. When I look at the norwegian team, it's insulting. No offence to these guys but the only deserving in that team are andreas and maybe Oystein. The other dudes are just not at that level, The 7 or 8 guys from the US are all better (in terms of competition results of course). Which brings me to my next point, there are probably a few people from other countries who are gonna qualify for the olympics that just don't belong there. Not that I have anything against these people, but you don't have to be a rocket scientist to understand that ultimately the best people should go, from wherever the hell they come. Also I heard that the moguls are linked with slopestyle in the athlete selection process. Which means that example for Canada, they kill it at moguls, so less room for the slope and pipe skiers.
For all these reasons the olympics are stupid and I would like to say FUCK FIS.

Anyone have any info, on the Canadian selection process? For slope men, I heard ABM was the only one who was gonna make it. I'd be really cool though to have Vinny cash though, if he could put down a clean run he could do well.

Also about Tom Wallisch, I think out of all the us guys trying to qualify, he's not very deserving. He's definetly not proved himself this year. He's real good but his jump tricks are boring, he's been doing the same tricks for the past 2-3 seasons.

I think you mean fuck IOC because FIS doesn't make the selection rules, thats a normal olympic thing that is the same for every sport that is in the olympics.

It is these people that belong there.

This is the beauty of the olympics that the world gets together and celebrates. Call me old school, but Eddy the eagle or the jamaican bob sled team "didn't belong" there either.

On another note, one could argue it is fairly easy to make the US soccer team compared to, let's say Spain or Germany. So in that case the better countries should be allowed to send two teams to the world cup.

But this is no Dew Tour or X Games. Even in the commercialized, corporate days we live in, this should stay as it is. Give a young guy/girl from some country where they don't have the chance to train and ski that often the chance to represent their country, get some spotlight and let them all have a good time together.

And you could have at least picked Italy, Argentina or what not, but seriously complaining about Norway's team..?

Yeah I understand, but Tom just hasn't looked very good at all this season. He can't land rails let alone his stock 3 dubs very well. It's tough to see. Joss' run today was unreal, reminiscent of old wallisch, Alex after his 1st, has his own argument for sochi cause he has 16's and probly triples, and McCrae has an enormous amount of dubs (i feel like all the safety grabs are holding him back in judges eyes). Seeing how good Alex, Joss and McCrae are lately makes me unsure about Tom even though I gotta think he's got a lot up his sleeve for olympics.

You completely missed the whole point of the olympics.

It's the same in racing. I mean hell you watch some of the bizarre nations that have ski racers that can just about make it down a course. But they are there representing their country.
Otherwise it would just be the US vs Switzerland vs Austria. etc.


I'm excited to see what other nations throw in athletes even if all they can throw is a 3.

To qualify for the Olympics you must have a top 30 finish in a world cup event in the last year, regardless of country. You also need some FIS points too, not quite sure how many.

So someone tossing 3s won't be there.

it makes sense if you look at it that way,  it's allright for people from other countries who are less skilled to go and it's a real cool experience for them. I guess what I'm trying to say is it sucks for guys like schlopy and joss who aren't going to the olympics when they clearly deserve to be there. They both proved that they can be the best in the world in their sport. Anyways i'd be pissed if I were them.

So Guss, Bobby and Goepper are going to the Olympics for sure. I guess the last spot is gonna be between Wallisch, Schloppy and Joss. So Tom will go lol!!!!1

It seems and sounds like Lyman is a lock, but I don't know if they can pick Gus over Lyman, and still add Torin to the team??? Gus and Lyman have both met objective criteria.... And I don't know what the finals point standings are at right now... Gonna be very very interesting to see how Torin's situation plays out.
