Snobby Ski Racers

Is it just at my mountain or is it everywhere that ski racers are snobs. They will take your seat in the lodge when you get up, and run into you on the mountain. There just pricks. Does anyone else face this?

The only reason they are snobs is because pretty much 90% of the park rats fuck with them. They also buy like $1000 pair of skis and like 300 for bindings. Of course they are going to be snobby when they are preppy rich fucks.

I work for the race team at my school taking photos and filming. They all look at me like I'm a different breed because I show up with huge flanels and baggy pants, they are all pretty nice when they realize that their filmer is a better skier than they are, that's how u earn respect

Pretty ignorant of you to say being that a lot of our favorite skiers have backgrounds in ski racing, namely Tanner Hall and Jon Olsson. Snobs come in all shapes and sizes…not just in the ski racing community.

but no matter what mountain you go to, racers are treated as the golden child. They get special privileges, most of the time their own special sections of the lodge, and so they feel like they are more important to the mountain than park rats

They get 'special privileges' because they pay for special privileges. The race program at most mountains brings in a lot more revenue than the 'park rats'.

I see we've reached the point of the typical "i hate ski racers" thread where, as well as making generalizations about them, we are making assumptions about the way they think of themselves in comparison to the rest of the people at their mountain. Good to see.

And, to go along with californiagrown said, do you also think it's unfair that people who pay more money than you to go to, say, an NFL game get better seats? Are those people also being treated like golden children? Do they also look down on your and think they are more important to the team than you are?

this. not every racer is loaded. i mean yes, you do have to be somewhat financially stable to afford good training and gear. some parents bust ass just so their kid can be a great skier.

all i am sensing is a ton of jealousy. who the fuck cares if the kids are dicks to you. grow some thicker skin and a start to not give a shit what others do. waaaah this mean ski racer called my inspired t gay. well guess what? you probably deserved it.

you're still just making assumptions/generalizations about people. You have no idea how each individual person feels about it. Have you ever been to a professional sporting event where you didn't buy the least expensive ticket available? If so, did you think yourself superior to all the people in the stadium who had a cheaper ticket than you?

OK lets generalize about park rats right now.

Still overall rich as hell becuase lets be honest, they are skiing with equipment that probably has well over $1000 of value on you at all times on the slopes.

Dress like fucking idiots, wears really baggy non functional clothing that looks dumb to 99% of the people out there besides other park rats.

Generally pretty awful at skiing outside of the terrain park. At least on the east coast.

Acts like a moron in public, curses constantly around young kids in lift lines, smokes weed in really obvious locations in front of families. Think they are the shit and run the terrain park. Yells at others for having fun in the terrain park. The list goes on and on. I love the terrain park as much as the next kid out there but if I had to choose would much rather kick off park rats than racers off the mountain

Think I like spending that much? It's ridiculous. I can only afford one pair of race skis right now. And speed suits are expensive. And my shin guards were like 70. For some pieces of plastic. Racing is too damn expensive. It's unfortunate.

I don't know about your mountains, but at mine racers and park rats treat each other pretty nice. None of them are assholes or stuck up rich kids. There's kinda of a respect between us cause we're all just out to ski and have a passion for skiing. And the racers never get special treatment at my mountain, actually ski patrol hate them just as much as they hate us. The other day this patrol was hassling me for "blocking the lift line" and a racer came up and helped me out.

I was referring more to the kids who spend 5 hours hiking a flat rail doing front 2s all day and think they're badass, but when they actually have to ski back to the chair/lodge, they hunch over with their poles dragging behind them, swish their tails around with their knees together because they can't hold an edge, and generally just flail around wildly if they manage to gain any significant amount of speed. Coincidentally (or not?), these always seem to be the kids making fun of racers.

come to think of it, the only group of people that ive noticed that have been rude, inconsiderate, and just a shit head around the mountain are park rats. Like dont get me wrong at all, I ski a ton of park, but a lot of you need to touch up on your manners. dropping f bombs in the lift line, blazing on heavily trafficked chairs, skiing like shit and having no skier code whatsoever, etc. i could go one about how park rats are some of the worst people on the mountain, but you guys would get all butthurt over that so i wont even bother..
