Right there with you. This whole thing is kinda bittersweet. Perhaps if this had happened for 2010 Vancouver we all probably wouldve been more excited bc the ppl who led the charge from the start wouldve had a better shot at representing the sport. No offense to anyone going to Sochi bc theyve worked for it (and deserve it) but they were not there from the beginning so the story doesnt round out to be that perfect Cinderella happily ever after ending. But hey, that's just how it evolved and it is, what it is.
That being said, I think dilution of our very diverse freeskiing culture is my major concern. This sport is built on representing/expressing oneself and the cutlure stands on two main pillars; artist and athletic (Tanner has Inspired, Tom had his solo seg, Torin has Vital, Pollard/Nimbus, Stept, etc...). It seems like the mainstream doesnt get that yet (aka Bob) and they probably wont ever get it. I hope that every single slopestyle and halfpipe athlete maximizes this opportunity to showcase both sides and avoids going along with what they think the mainstream "wants us to be". I expect Henrik to bark at the camera, Bobby to smile big, Tom to derp, and Tanner to run out to the winner bc that's what freeskiing is to me. Basically, go out and keep having fun regardless of the setting.
