can you reuse wax that you scrape off your skis the first time? seems like its a waste with so much comin off

you can, but you have to make sure that the wax is SUPER clean, cause if you get stuff in the wax (dust, dirt, dog/cat hair) it'll just end up being really nasty and could possibly mess up your skis when you go to wax them.

wax isnt that expensive. i just get the swix f4 wipe on, let ti sit for 5 min, then scrape and then buff it with the green and then the yellow side of a sos padd. the go really fast after that
when i was 2 my parents put me on a pair of sticks.....i have been running wild ever since.

Just keep using new wax. at like 12 bucks a bar for high quality wax it doesn't cost that much (and 5 bucks a bar for regular wax)

No you can't reuse wax. ask yourself why you wax your skis... ok, if you answered to make them glide faster, don't bother reusing the shavings. parafin is just used as a catalyst to carry the goodies that stay in your ski. Rub on wax works well between when you lay your skies down and get to the chair. ask yourself the same question... if you answered to protect your base, you have to use an iron to both heat the base and open the pores and allow the liquid wax to saturate in. On a new pair of skis it normally takes 8-10 waxes, of wax, let cool, scrap, repeat before the pores are saturated, and its ready to ski.

at the shop i work at, we save our wax scrapings and they use them on rental skis. although, i would never let these shavings touch the base of my skis

Yeah wax your skis like 8 times with a really soft wax and use a metal ssraper in between waxes. You can so this in about 3 or 4 hours of watching a movie or tv. You could also make firends with someone at a shop that a hotbox, or just pay a shop with a hotbox to do it for you.

You don't need to hotbox unless you're racing for tenths of seconds or just have money to burn.

Wax is cheap. Swix Universal or CH# is about $40 in 900g bulk sizes which will last you forever. Don't reuse scrapings.

hotboxs are just a fast way of waxing skis for like rental and demo places. they do an ok job of waxing but if u wax your skis yourself its really a better and more thoural wax job

Hotboxes really let the wax soak into the bases. If you are cheap and don't have enough money to buy enough wax, get it the piece of wax hot with your iron and before it is about to melt and drip, rub the warm wax onto your ski bases like you would a crayon. continue this until you cover them and then iron it in. This saves a lot of wax, and make it easier to scrape off. Make sure you brush when you are done too.

hotboxes are nice, they get the wax to soak in real deep into your skis.

don't use a metal scrapper on your skiis!!! that is for leveling (read: cutting) P-tex flat. the plastic one is plastic for a reason... so it doesn't rape your skis. By hotbox, do you mean like baking, or heat cycling your ski? that was really popular in the past because it does open up the pores and allow the max amount of wax into the ski, however it isn't done anymore (at least by inteligent tech's :) because there are too many variables to control. If left too long, too hot, the base can become burnt, and won't accept wax again, the ski can deform (I have seen this happen a few times) as the core materials expand at different rates.

The reason you have to wax 8 times, is every time you wax, your only filling lets say 75% of the pores (obvisouly this % varies on base material, etc, etc.. so don't quote me on it) Each time you wax you fill more and more, and more. Its important the first time because it keeps dirt and gunk out of your ski for the season. Rub on wax does not penetrate the ski, and will only last 50 feet.

^what he said...definatley don't use metal though, that fucked up my old skis. I don't reuse wax cause it has too much crap in it, especially if you p-tex'd

does waxing it yourself fill in all the scrapes cause i brought my skis in to some shop near the mountain for a cheap $10 wax and all it did was make my base smoother. I still have a bunch of scratches on the bottom and im thinkin bout waxin it myself.

naw they only will fill them in if u tell them to...i think u got a wax and sharpen...and i think they call it a tune up to get ur scratches filled in,wax,sharpen
