you definitely do not have to traverse if you don't want to at alta, let's not kid ourselves on the reasons why it's a skiers-only resort. yeah there are places that require traversing i.e. the chutes near greeley bowl, gunsight, to the left off of supreme, and the ballroom bowl area. but the vast majority can be accessed without hiking, traversing, etc. skiers are banned there because it's a business decision. you create a supremacist environment and give snowboarders a bad reputation, suddenly skiers think it's an added bonus that there aren't snowboarders there. it's the same at deer valley.
do you think alta would make and sell, and people would buy these stickers if snowboarders weren't only allowed there because a fraction of the terrain is inconvenient for them?
interesting to see how this turns out. i've wondered what would happen if a snowboarder ever just tried to get on a lift there with a legitimate ticket.
