Anyone planning on going? Supposively there are millions of people expected. I know sure as hell I'm going. I dunno about the million people, but I'm sure it will be a lot. Anyone else going? It's January 20, 2005.

You idiot he's protesting to show that he doesn't agree with what is happening. At least he is doing something about it compared to the rest of the people who are just going to sit on the fat asses and talk about how they are pissed off.

How can you protest his inaguration? He won fair and square. The majority of the country wants him in power and thats how democracy works. You bitter hippies are just gonna have to deal with the fact that were gonna have Bush for the next 4 years. Instead of bitching and protesting his inaguration maybe more of you should have went to the poles and made a real difference.

When you dissaprove of something, it is obviously your duty to protest it, it's a right that we have, so why not? ice_is_scary. the inauguration was chosen as the site because it's more symbolic that we're protesting Bush and his policies, rather than his inauguration himself.

Dude you can protest anything regarless of if its right or wrong. And im pretty sure that anyone who is willing to protest it went to the poles and tried to get him out of office. I don't knwo why anyone would care strongly enough to protest if they didn't vote in the first place. Plus protest can bring change, if you get enough people down there they will be noticed.

I mean protesting his policies is cool and all but can't you find a better time to do it than his inaguration thats just causing more trouble than a protest needs to, and it's pretty fucking rude to all the people that voted him in.

Protesting opens the eyes of the leaders. It brings media attention to a cause, that can change leaders minds, to a degree. Also, he may have won, but that doesn't mean ALL of his policies are right, just means that 51% of the US believed that 51% of his policies were better than Kerry's. If you really look at it, those aern't very satisfying numbers. Maybe Bush will see that some of his policies aern't what Americans want.

the inauguration is going to be getting a lot of media attention anyways, so more people will see how many people are protesting. it will make them pay attention and make it harder to ignore us.

I dont even know what that says really, but I must say its pretty obvious that the coutnry is divided of this election there was plenty of protesting against the war in Iraq. Protesting Bush at the RNC. I'm sure they get the point. You can't appease everyone and it's a shame the country is so close to 50/50 Bush. I'm curious as to which policies you are protesting? Or are you just protesting against the man himself?

OpIvy, if you don't think protesting will do anything, don't do it. the whole point is maybe they will realize how passionatley many americans feel about certain issues and regulate them accordingly. no it wont cause kerry to be president. no it won't change his views on gay marriage. but it may make them govern certain issues more accordingly and to a lesser extreme as they normally would. protesting can cause change. if nothing else, at least it gives ME the feeling of satisfaction knowing that i at least tried to help the country, and tried to change it for the better. It's better than calling people with differing opinions morons on the internet.

^It also goes a LONG way towards altering world opinion, one way or another... It causes a lot more people who would otherwise hate America, to simply hate their government. Not that a lot of people won't hate the country anyways, given that more than half of them voted for the guy... but still, it certainly does have a major effect. If you don't think MASSIVE public statements of dissent from the people make a difference to a government or a nation, well, you're wrong. Although it likely makes less difference to the Bush admin than others, simply because they've had their blinders on for four years, and only seen what they've wanted to.

Well ladies and gents I just think protesting at the inauguration is rude. You could easily get as much coverage if you protesting at the white house the day before or the day after. All this does is make you guys look like assholes to the other half of the country.

Ice, I dont really think that having respect for the bush administration is on any of our minds, those of us who disapprove of the Bush cronies arent going to go, 'oh damn you guys lets not protest his inaguration... It would be too Ruuuude of us.' And to those americans who voted for bush, I dont really think it is my responsibility to be genial to them, especially because, in my mind, if they wanted to respect the country in wich they lived then they wouldnt have voted for bush in the first place. But that's just me. And i know that sounds bad.

we need a country were dissent and the oppositions voice is heard. that is what america was founded on, and we no longer really take that to where it should be. i wish i could go washington to protest, but i live in mt, and have no money
