Ok, I'm brand new here, so hopefully I'm doing this in the right thread. I've been looking for some new park skis, (I ski 100% park) and I'm pretty sure I want a center mount due to the advantages offered in the park by them. I've done some research, and it seems that K2 has the only lineup in which skis are characterized with bi directional sidecuts. My question is, what other companies make bi directional skis, OR, what park skis will still ski well when center mounted. Thanks for your help.
line, on3p, volkl, any many other brands make symmetrical sidecut skis. skis that don't have symmetrical sidecuts are not going to ski as well switch per say, but there are tons and tons of directional sidecut skis that kill it in the park
Pure park.... Maybe line chronic or traveling circus. Volkl ledge. 4frnt click. Idk you can't really go wrong with most major brands. Go to your shop and ask them too.
To be honest, I really like them. They pop well, theyre stable, and very durable. I would love to center mount them if I could, but manufacturer reccommended is 2.5 back and the secondary mounting point is 5 back, so I dont think I could
Well, Im getting new skis anyway, so you think its really not worth it if you can find a pair of skis that perform well at manufacturer mounting points?
well if you really ski 100% park, then there aren't any huge disadvantages to center mounting. they'll carve a bit differently since they won't be mounted where the manufacturer had in mind in relation to the sidecut, but that's not a huge issue for 100% park
so what im saying is if that's your preference then go for it. i know there are a few (not many) truly symmetrical skis but i can't name them for you, i havent kept up with park skis in the last few years
it's worth noting that it wont matter a ton either way so don't sweat it! personally i would usually buy park skis that arent true symm and mount a little up from the recommended line to sorta split the difference.
but if youre 100% park and are literally riding switch half the time, then it may well be worth your time to find and mount a symm ski
