Im 5'9" and looking at the 178 ninthward RDS do you think thats to short? Im already riding a pair of the true twin that are the same length in the park
I would say that's way too short. The RDS will ski shorter anyway because of the rocker and you'd normally want a longer ski for pow. It depends on weight, preference, terrain and ability level as well as height obviously but I personally wouldn't get a pow ski that short.
It's a common misconception you need to go longer with pow skis. This is not always the case. I rode 181 thalls last year and 184 rocker 122's last season so pretty much the same size. Because the rocker is so much wider and rockered I do not need to go long to get float. The 192 is much bigger and not as playfull and I never found the 184 sank.
Overall it will depen on the ski and what you want them for. If they are charging you will go stiffer less rocker and usually a bit longer. If you want playfull you can go wide soft rockered but not go too much longer then your regular skis.
It's not just extra float that I'm looking for with a longer pow ski - it's extra stability and a bigger landing pad for drops. Rocker means I can get those things whilst still having a ski that is as (if not more) maneuverable in soft snow than a fully cambered ski.
