Yeah its pretty absurd. I assume the required size was implemented during the creation of NS and never was updated

It was 4K back in 2005 but sometime after that they changed it to 8K
It really should be like 1MB

I'd say raise it by a Kb or two, but not too much. As much as it sucks, it keeps the website fast and smooth. Especially if it's one of those threads with a lot of videos or embeds, it's a good limit.
