disclaimer: i have read all the books and I love the show. up until sunday night I thought the show was doing an amazing job with the whole story, keeping everything as consistent as possible with minor alterations.

BUT then that fucking HORSESHIT at crasters. None of that EVER HAPPENS

We get 10 hours of this show a year. we just wasted 30 minutes with some shitty rape and a sketchy murder, while NO storylines progressed and while some MADE UP SHIT HAPPENED

An aside from the book vs. tv shitstorm….does anyone else think that the leader dude at Craster's looks like a young Willem Dafoe? They're both pretty good at crazy too.

this. it annoys me so much. im gona sound like a giant hipster douche but i have been massively disappointed with this show. after reading all the books (might i add before all you fucks who joined the bandwagon for the show) i have a completely different picture of characters, how the books would progress, and the overall style.

that being said iv only ever watched the first 3 episodes then the most recent after my friends urged me to try again.

still hate it.

also, i like how they cleaned things up beyond the wall....different than the books, but i feel that now maybe things will get back on track.

Well I am pretty pleased with that episode.

I haven't read the books and don't care to add fuel to the fire of the books vs. tv direction, but I like how things are progressing and that least scene at Craster's pretty sick.

Because they need to tell the story...not every episode will have an epic battle or depth. But just wait for the season finale. I imagine that will suffice.

I enjoyed the episode very much, but it was a filler episode in terms of story lines for TV shows, especially one that is this popular and will run for a long time. Filler meaning it strays from the main plot and may introduce side characters or an encounter that is met and resolved in one episode, just to fill up some space in the show. That's pretty much exactly what Craster's was to the TV show, and there will definitely be more of these little fillers as the show progresses.

i somewhat disagree. i feel that this storyline, while different from the book, made for better TV for getting Bran beyond the wall and on his journey....so close to Jon, but he has to make the decision to move on to find the 3 eyed crow. i feel that had they followed Bran's story exactly per the book, it would have been very blah...idk...just my opinion based on what i remember from his storyline from the book.

What are you disagreeing with? I said i enjoyed the episode, and a filler is pretty much anything that isn't in the book since so many people were upset about the Craster's episode even happening.

From the perspective of someone who hasn't read the books.

Craster's involved cool battle scene and progressed your understanding of both who Jon is as a character and who Bran is and what his long-term motivation is/will be. Was Craster's necessary for the plot as far as keeping it on track of the book? Wouldn't know I haven't read the books, I'M WATCHING A TV SHOW.

I'm saying this to highlight that the books are really irrelevant to at least 50% of the viewers, so I really don't care if they do/do not follow the books, as long as it's compelling and exciting to watch. Sure having the books and having GRR as a producer probably keep the show grounded in a good story, but in my perspective I don't care either way as long as it's good television.

as someone who has read the books and loves them i agree with you completely. as long as what they are doing isnt illogical, serves the purpose of the greater arc of the story, and doesnt dramatically change a character's personality or identity im all for the changes. its exciting not to know exactly what is going to happen sometimes. i feel like the changes have helped keep the story fresh and exciting for me.

and in addition there are parts of the books that take sooooooooooooooooooooooo looooooooooooooong to develop and a lot of the changes that have been made have sped things up and created more interesting dynamics by raising the stakes in certain situations. like making Gendry the one the Red Woman was going to sacrifice rather than making it some random kids we've never met, heard of, or give a shit about like it is in the books. or making Robb actually love his wife rather then just grief banging her and marrying her cause he feels bad about ruining her honor.

there really isnt anything theyve changed so far that i havent at least been ok with. most of the changes ive liked better than what they did in the books to be honest. and i read the books before the show even existed

how the fuck is noone talking about how littlefinger straight up has been behind every event that has happened so far in the series. i mean the dude convinced lysa to kill jon aryn and then convinced her to write to catelyn telling her the lannisters did it, which essentially sets up the entire series of events.

that was easily the biggest twist this series has ever pulled, littlefinger is a g who has literally played everyone this entire time.

I could totally imagine some things being better. In many ways I think that a change in artistic mediums with the same story in mind is kind of an option to re-do certain things so to speak. Given that GRRM is a producer I like to think that he has a say in how the show diverges from the books, and perhaps there are choices in his writing that in hindsight he wished he had changed or at least that he thinks would be more appropriate if done a different way given the change in medium. I've also had a conversation with some folks more familiar with the books who say the show has to be different given the possibility that GRRM is either late on delivering the next book or isn't able to at all. One friend had a theory that he wants someone else to be able to finish the story if he is unable to.

yeah man, huge reveal. little finger is the real villain in the story as it turns out. dude is a fucking baller. my favorite non POV character in the books and my favorite character in the show period. all he does is fuck shit up and get away with it

Well, book 3 was split into season 3 and season 4. I imagine book 4 which ORIGINALLY was supposed to be AFFC AND Dance with Dragons will be another 2... maybe 3 seasons.

GRRM needs to sit his ass down and get to writing.

The combat in Vikings, for me, is about 400x better than in GoT. That's what happens when GoT uses fucking dancers as fight scene choreographers.

I love it, but its not as good for me just due to the lack of attachment to most of the characters. I hate the new wife whose name deserts me.

Thats a pretty bold statement. I've never seen Vikings, but is it really THAT good? Always looking for new shows...might have to check that one out.
