lamadelreyDat rape doe... so wrong in so many ways
J.D.Really? It kind of sucks right now in the books. The Wall has basically epitomized the problem with how Martin has taken a story that was a fun adventure and turned it into a history textbook about diplomacy and running a garrison and dealing with petty politics. I mean Meereen is even more of a problem in that regard but the Wall is certainly like that too.
Who? Strong Belwas? He's completely unnecessary to the story. The only issue with Dany's storyline is that they already know Barristan is Barristan, so the events that are coming will just involve the other guy (trying to prevent spoilers).
This is just rampant fanboyism. None of these details are crucial, and if they'd been reversed (i.e. if the books had been written with these details and the show was like the books) you'd still be complaining about it. There's no reason that the way the show has done these things isn't better than the books; in fact Martin may have wished he'd done things differently after the fact and is using the show as a do-over. Not everything has to be the same.
I agree about the Tommen casting though. For one thing he seems a few years too old. He should basically be a child who is incapable of thinking rationally and is more worried about things like cats and what's for dinner than power.
KZASo JD, are you gonna ban yourself for a week now? I remember you had this to say in the thread from last year:
"All of that said, if you want to talk about the book, the differences between the book and the show, or anything that would not be discussed by someone who has seen nothing but the HBO episodes, go to that other thread that got made. If you don't, I will ban you for a week. I'm a start enforcing this on the Walking Dead thread too. I imagine Gato will do likewise because I don't check in here that often (or I would have deleted a bunch of shit sooner)"

Mr.PandaAFFC isn't a bad book... it's just compared to Swords which is right before it it sucks.
CirilloThe only thing that got me through feast was looking forward to the next book. It was like the second season of the wire. Pretty shitty but necessary to the story.
Mr.PandaIt's the first book with Cersei chapters too isn't it... God, reading through those early chapters of her's are almost as much of a chore as reading through Bran and Dany chapters.
I hate Dany chapters so fucking much.

CirilloAgree with the Dany chapters. I can't stand any of the Dorne or Iron Island characters either. I liked some of the Cersei ones though because how absolutely retarded she is.

SkiThe603But anyone who watches the show and thinks Daenarys is the greatest and best character, I usually shake my head and walk away.
They know nothing.
Bar_DownThe chapters that I hated the most were the Catelyn chapters. I was so happy when that bitch died. I gotta agree though the Dany chapters are fucking stupid for the most part
J.D.Apparently everyone just decided that this wasn't the rule anymore which is why ElGato quit the thread completely after everyone in here basically chased him out bitching at him for being too much of a tightass about it. If everyone wants it spoiler free that's fine but make up your fucking minds already.
.MASSHOLE.Yeah, seriously
From the wall onwards, correct me if I am wrong, NONE of that happened.
CirilloThey're butchering the wall. I have to say though I really liked the rest of the episode. The ending scene was pretty cool too.
Barefootin_Fiendso....wtf? i don't remember ANY of that with bran at crastor's keep, etc. wtf are they doing to the story...?

Mr.PandaSome of the changes I like... some of the changes.....
Like why is straight sex always portrayed as really rapey? Even in the first season between Cersei and Jaime it had this slight rapey quality to it.
cobra_commanderNERD FIGHT 2014!
With all the scenes from the wall north I could not help but think 'what the fuck?' The story is really good, but not what I expected. Looking forward to seeing how it develops.
I do dislike how weak the dire wolves are in the show. They straight fucked shit up in the books. I'm also disappointed in the abscence of Arya's wolf shredding apart westeros with her own pack of dogs/wolves.
CirilloForgot about that too. They make them seem a lot less important in the show.
