Barefootin_Fiendfavorite scenes - when the giant's arrow goes through the watchman and sends him flying off the top of the wall....awesome. and when they release the anchor thing on the chain and sweep all of the climbers right off the wall....then they show just the hand and forearm still attached to the ice axe.
forgot to mention, the wildling getting trampled by the mammoth...splat, ghost gnawing on some neck, & JS putting the blacksmith's hammer through the top of that Thenns head.
Barefootin_FiendJS putting the blacksmith's hammer through the top of that Thenns head.
Considering he just got his face smashed into an anvil , that was pretty epic.
From reading the book I always saw Alliser as a douchebag, but actually show Alliser was pretty badass. I loved the speech and his fighting was pretty fucking awesome, believe it or not I was rooting for him against Toromund. Show Toromund just seems angry, not the joking, jovial character from the books that many people enjoy.
ptbsbll12Don't get me wrong, GoT is the best show ever, but I'm starting to get a little annoyed with how much the storyline jumps around from person to person and leaves out people in each episode. The characters were all pretty connected when the show first started but now everyone is in a different place and it drags the story out a little by not even touching on certain people in some episodes. Just me being picky I guess.
Last night's episode was epic though. I can't believe there is only 1 episode left, I feel like there is so much more that needs said/done before it's over.
Um...two things. First of all, that is how the book is written so imagine reading that. You want continuity? GRRM says go fuck yourself you won't hear about that character for another 5 chapters. But honestly how do you expect them to show every single character every single episode within the allotted time and storyline? It would be impossible.
las. Also, probably the most comical death so far
I just started laughing when this happened. So absurd.

I've never read the books so I don't know how it's set up. I've just noticed that as the show has continued the characters grow farther and farther apart, which is slightly annoying. They should make the season longer IMO.
gRAPEFRUITNah, if they don't have "Edd, Fetch me a block" in the show, book readers will tear show directors a new one. That is one of the most loved lines in that whole series. They've done good keeping it pretty close to the books. You saw all the book readers bristle at "Your Sister" instead of "Only Cat"
This is like the epitome of something that could be easily changed for the show without affecting anything at all. "Edd, fetch me a block" is changed to "Fetch me a block", said to whoever happens to be nearby. This would affect the narrative in no way at all. I think you vastly overestimate the extent to which the show creators are willing to go for fanboy service.
There is only one line from the books that has to happen in the show to avoid losing a ton of content from the book, and that is: "Wherever whores go".

That happens in the books as well. Everyone starts off close, and then they move further, and further, and further apart. You will notice the intro/theme song at the start mirrors every place visited. It will only get longer.
i watched that episode last night with a bunch of friends, first episode i have watched since season 1 episode 1 and that was one of the few scenes i really enjoyed. loved that shot. it's kinda lame how they didnt follow the book when ygritte died. also liked jons fight scene with the hammer through the head.
we should start a thread for those who have read the books so we can talk about theories for whats happening later in the series. three of my friends had read the books so thats what we talked about for like 45 minutes before the show.

I think that you vastly under-estimate the pandering that the show writers do to fanboys. There were tons of easter eggs all over that episode last night, the one prior too. Just an example, Donal Noye who is a heroic and likeable (alebit one scene makes him popular) character in the books and is cut out entirely is a blacksmith, Jon kills Styr with of all things, a blacksmith hammer. Why not kill him with absolutely anything else? That is just one example.
I was a little disappointed that didn't show the fight scene with the giant really. Could have been a very bad ass scene and added a little variety to the battle

DUDE me too I was so mad about that, they build it up...he comes charging...night's watch speech...black screen. The fuck is that??
why is the budget so low / CGI so expensive? I feel like that should be cheaper than stuff like the epic huge sets they build. The show must make an insane amount of money, you'd think there would be a few more dragon / giant / direwolf shots.
No idea, but considering there are 10 ~60 minute episodes, that shit can add up quick versus a 120 minute movie. Plus all of the different sets, locations, costumes, cast, etc.
Mr.PandaDany's fucking dragons are the reason we only saw Ghost for like 2 seconds this last episode too.
I mean at least they had him in the episode. I don't think it would have been too much of a stretch for them to leave him out. I love the dire wolves in books

Apparently this was the most expensive episode ever shot in all of television. The set was fucking huge and the CGI was abundant.

I WAS FUCKING PISSED ABOUT THIS. GHOST IS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER. PERIOD.
WHY THE FUCK WOULD JON NOT BRING HIM TO THE NORTH AT THE END AS WELL?!
That actually seemed really outrageous to me? Any book readers care to comment on that part, like did he not bring ghost along in the book?
Question for the book readers, are the books significantly better than the show? I'm debating if I want to read them or not. If they're really good I'll definitely read them

I'll have to get them then. I used to read a lot when I was younger but don't really have much time anymore, but I'll make sure to make time to read these. They have all 5 in paperback for $30 on Amazon so that'll be my next purchase for sure

The show is amazing and I think the books are still significantly better.
