Chewy.Would it be bad to start reading in the middle of the series? If not, where do I start?

lovejoygame of thrones is all dicks

J.D.Yes, mainly because it gets a lot worse about halfway through. Books 2 and 3 are the best, followed by 1, while books 4-5 are sort of lame. So if you were to start halfway through you'd miss out on the best stuff.
ScaredwhiteboyI seriously hope Sansa gets naked before this season ends. That would totally make up for it if they kill Tyrion.
Alistair.
Curious to know if that episode lived up to the book readers expectations as you/they've all been eagerly awaiting that episode.
I'm seriously excited for the finale now.
VinnieFdid they show it as Jon killing Ygritte in the TV show?
Alistair.Nah it was that little kid that was at Castle Black in the show, just as Ygritte and Jon gaze into each others eyes for the first time since she shot him with some arrows.

.MASSHOLE.I believe that is correct too.

CirilloNah it was different.
ONTerriible(SPOILERS FOR NON BOOK READERS LOOKING TO READ THEM)
All in all it was great. A little rushed as you can draw something out longer in a book than in a tv show. The siege actually lasts for several days, not just one night.
Paedophile-PopeIs this entire episode at The Wall?
squashmoshYes
.MASSHOLE.Damn it.
Do they not go back to the wall in the book though? Or is that next book?
Mr.PandaI thought... well, I thought a certain someone that believes in fire would show up but I guess not...
If they kill off Edd next I will throw a fucking fit though.

squashmoshJon literally said the siege isn't over, which was why he left to find Mance Rayder. "They'll attack again tonight, we can only hold them off for one or two days maybe" (not quoting verbatim(. I'm assuming this isn't quite over yet and they'll return to the wall to at least cap off the season/foreshadow what will come next season.
As someone who has not and probably will not read the books I thoroughly enjoyed that episode and the overall flow of this season in general.
Does anyone have a count on how many times the show has focused on one area for an entire episode? Has this happened even once before? I kind of liked it this way although I wouldn't expect it to happen every week.
It's amazing that back to back we get these crazy good and exciting episodes, you expect shows to have a down note after something like the Viper and the Mountain, but not here. Anyone who's been feeling "meh" about this season and the stuff at the wall should have nothing to complain about at this point (besides bitching about how the show is not the "same", which is just pissing in the wind at this point…the show stands up on it's own).

J.D.That wasn't the part book readers were looking forward to, which I imagine will happen next week.
gRAPEFRUITI was looking forward to the stairs going KABOOM! The reveal at the end is OK in my eyes, but not the greatest, you kinda see it coming.
J.D.Really? Of the major things that could be included in next week's episode, I don't think any of them are predictable.
CirilloNah it was different.
Furrer92*kinda spoiler-ish?
GRRM kinda leaves it open as to who did it but the feathers on the arrows weren't Jon's, he just feels responsible.
ONTerriibleAlso that continuous tracking shot was boss
drugmoneyanyone else thought about how all of this could have been avoided if that little shit bran wasnt climbing and didnt see jamie fucking his sister?
