Different doubles

In slopestyle comps these days I feel like I see a lot of the same tricks, even pretty similar grabs. Hung out and watched all of grand prix last week and couldn't figure out why people aren't mixing it up a little more (albeit conditions were awful, but I feel that way about most competitions). Off the top of my head, I rarely or haven't seen dub cork 7, dub cork 9, kang 9, kang 10, or butter tricks in comp. These have all been done and don't need enormous jumps like triple corks do. Thoughts on why these tricks or others you have noticed aren't done in comps? Are they just too hard?

Hardly anyone has dub 7
Dub 9 looks kind of wonky and difficult to get a solid grab in
Kang flips are kinda outdated and considered easier than dub 12s
Dub flat 10 pretty much requires you to pencil the last 180, judges want your grab held the whole way through
Nose but dubs are on the rise and I'm guessing they'll become the new dub 12 mute at X Big Air


Pretty much dub corks allow for the easiest demonstration of mastery of a trick to the judges. There are many grabs you can do in dub corks and the axis allows you to hold it all the way through.

It sucks that it's looked at this way but it makes sense when you realize that everyone wants to impress the judges and win, and from a judges standpoint it's hard to give points to a trick that doesn't look completely in control as well as it being difficult to rank up against the other guys all doing the same tricks.

When everyone is throwing similar tricks it makes it easier to establish who wins because you can compare more directly

ABM does both dub 7s and 9s, and Henrik does butter dubs.

Most of the top slope pros all have similar if not the same stock doubles. However there still is room for these tricks to stand out with technical grabs (Woodsy and Hatviet).

There are exceptions (like ABM's dub cork 7 and Henrick's dub flat 10), but besides them i can't think of people who throw those tricks in slope.

I agree all of those tricks should be thrown but honestly with the Olympics right there athletes aren't about to change the tricks they have dialed
