Learn short radius turns really well on flats and try and get really quick with those turns. Keep the vision ahead, pole plant on the back-side of the bump, and to control speed, try to absorb and push into the mogul rather than over-steer the skis. Lots of practice through the zipper line and you should be good as gold.
Moguls! I though only old fucks like me knew how to ski those anymore...Hahahaha Seriously though it is a great idea to join a freestyle team if you can. If not, start practicing as much as possible. Soon you will be pretty comfortable going very fast thru them. At that point you can work on the finer points of your technique/form. Cant look stupid forever rippin the titties.!
hands out front looking 3 or 4 moguls ahead. slap tips on the back side of every mogul to help you initiate every turn. there is a bunch of good youtube video out there as well
-Fate clothing
-OG graphic dynastar graphic 6th sense's (applies to east coast only)
-use park poles
-know mogul terms
Know "that guy" who rips moguls without a helmet in ripped t-shirt and 2000 era skipants
-learn to love slush
-soft boots
-must shred all mtn first (mandatory)
-grow up on ice coast
-"DROP THAT ZIPPERLINE BRAH!" is your go-to conversation start at top of mogul field
But seriously learn how to fucking rip the mtn like no one's buisness so you can actually progress and teams do help but make sure you are willing to learn and encounter lots and lots of frustration and mogul skiing takes lots of time to actually rip moguls
you are gonna do lots of flats, lots of skiing the exact same run and hitting the exact same jumps.
Is it worth it? Fuck yes. Nothing is better than crushing bumps on a spring day or finishing a competition run that you are totally stoked on.
well maybe pow is better, but skiing bumps will make you a better skier in the pow as well. Also in the park on jumps I guess. In fact you basically get the same bennefits in your skiing that a racer would get, but you get to travel around and compete with freestyle skiers instead of racers, which is much more fun I think.
