Sth 16 steel vs fks 140

I know there have been many threads made debating these two, but....

Im looking for a pair of binders for my new filthy riches. My debate:
Fks: would be like $30 more expensive, have had bad durability issues with them on other pairs of FRs so its kind of like a superstition, how much better is the turntable on my knees than a traditional binding?

Sth: solid clicking in and out, not a bitch to get on at times, save a bit of money.

Decide for me, basically my question is how much is the fks turntable preventing me from a blown knee?

If you have to ask if your need a 916, you don't need a 916.

what the turn pivot does is actually, is when making a turn, your boot has to ton of friction, and it wants to move. the Fks pivots just slightly in a turn, not enough to notice, but enough the let the friction off, so it makes your turn "better"

IMO the sth16 steel is one of the best values out there. They are practically unbreakable and will last through your next 5 pairs of skis. But....uber heavy.

Go with the sth, it's a solid binding all around, but you can't really go wrong with either one if your in they're din range

What do you recommend then? I need at least a 14 din binding, and it had to be durable because i have a tendency to destroy fks's

Just go for the STH2 16 or unless your actually using a din of 14, go for the STH2 13. Same build only difference is the spring.

The sth 16 steel is amazing but it weighs a ton. But all those three are I would say better then a fks 14, so take your pick of the STH2's.

Would it be dumb to by the sth2 wtr bindings if i dont tour?

They are not touring bindings they are a standard alpine binding. The WTR just means you can use salomon's walk to ride soles safly with the bindings as well as any Din standard sole.

The Gaurdian is salomons touring binding

I'm guessing you don't destroy FKS's, you probably switch eject and rip the brakes off. So get something with a larger brake like a Mojo 15 for cheap. Great binding for park as it's durable, cheap, and can get beat to shit for years. I swapped FKS for those on my park skis years ago just to save myself from the brakes and I've been very happy.

I'm a big fan of the Tyrolia heels and all of their rebranded systems as well, I had the Fischer X17 (Equivalent to their race heelpieces with lateral heel movement) and skied the shit out of it for 3 seasons on 2 pairs of skis. Theyre a great value for a high din binding.

No like I actually do destroy them. I've snapped the metal arm on the heel piece in half, snap lots of the half moon pieces in the heel, and then with another pair as you said had bad break problems.

From experience 916s/Steels last way longer than turntables. My last pair of 916s had been on a friend's skis for over 5 years living in Verbier and Chamonix and they still served me well. The extra weight is worth it if you're hard on your gear, don't even think about it.

I have the 2013 STH 16s and I love them. FYI the driver toe is not only micro adjustable, but also made to release by pivoting

I've had Jesters, Fks and STH 16s. This year I'm on the new STH2 16s and they're my favourite binding yet. As someone whose hard on their gear, I'll vouch for these. And once you get your forward pressure and 'wings' properly adjusted I think it's the best cuff out there, plus the guardian heel just makes it all the more solid.


I've never tried the steels, but I'm always tempted to pick up a pair now and then just to have.. They're heavy as people have said, but you can't go wrong with them apparently..
