Pretty damn strong X-class flare just blew right towards us from Sun-Centre. Should be visible as far south as where I am (Tahoe) by tomorrow through the 11th. Get out there and get ready for some timelapses/photos. Gonna be sweet!

Unfortunately, I'm too far south to get a good photo of it, but the rest of you better get out there for it.

Anyone have any tips for shooting photos of the northern lights? I'd like to think that I know what I'm doing shooting stars, but haven't had any experience shooting the northern lights? I remember someone shooting only like a 10 or 15 second exposure to get the actual shape of the lights? Would hugely appreciate it, as I did google it, but most of the tips were like "dress warmly" and not particularly helpful.

Use as fast shutter as you can, otherwise do the same as with starshots

Apparently northern midwest and the NE are supposed to get it best, NW isn't and its storming here anyway

Shit, dude, those are SOOO cool.

No such avail in Colorado. I was up in the mountains from around 11 till 1, but there was pretty bad cloud cover so I couldn't see anything. I'd bet there was probably something on the very northern horizon, but nothing readily visible.
