Mentioned this in the bails of the week article as well, but Chris O'Connell or whoever is doing your dev now a days should add some more functionality to the video player, maybe:
1.) How about passing a variable to the player to display the ads depending on where the video is embedded, say if they are on video's actual dedicated page in the video section and not if they are posted in an article or some other specific section.
2.) Display the ad based upon the length of the video. Always make sure the video is longer than the ad. If the video is say 3+ minutes, show a 30 second ad. If it's 1 minute, only show a 15 second ad. If it's a 10 second clip, don't show the ad at all.
Maybe this in combination with asking people to no use adblock would equal less loss than the noted 75k plus everyone is less annoyed? I don't know how NS is setup, but being a 8+ year web developer, this is pretty annoying from a user's perspective.
Once again, just food for thought. I love this site and have been here a long time. I created my first account in 2002 so I could watch the videos after they restricted them to account holders. I understand the high cost associated with running and maintaing NS, it's just there has to be some better way.
