Every time i go skiing, I end up with some sort of bruised toe that looses its nail within a week. Have any of you had this problem? If so what do you do to fix it?? +KK
Toe bang is pretty common as are threads on the topic. One thing I found out from a boot fitter recently is that you are way more likely to get toe bang if you ski with your boots too loose. If your boots are loose and you have one back seat landing, that's all it takes. My feet were cramping in my boots and I was skiing with the barely buckled. I hit a little jump, landed back and got blue toe an my second day of skiing this season. If your boots are too big or you ski them too loose, you will most likely get toe bang.
Lost one two years ago, about to lose one this spring. Although this time I drained the bruised toe of the fluid with my mom in the kitchen with a sterilized pushpin (real gang$ta shit), and it's looking more red than the last one, which was a navy-ish purple. Interested to see results.
Yup, both my toes hurt like a motherfucker until they go numb this season. I banged them 2nd day. The left one hurts more, but the right one is more purple. Skiable though..
Usually once a day skiing park, Ill land flat off something, go deep, whatever and slam one of my big toes hard and every time im convinced my toe is gonna be black when i take my sock off and its always fine.
I've never had an issue with black toe, but I had a roommate who literally got black toe after two days of skiing no matter what every year, might have had something to do with having the same boots for 10 years haha
If you get your boot fitted correctly you can almost eliminate toe bang to do this you need the correct size shell, a good well made custom footbed, the toe px should be adapted to match your toes, the flex should work for your requirements and finally the liner should be correctly fitted do all this and keep your toe nails short you should not h e many problems.
My toes are constantly destroyed and my boots are fitted properly and always done up really tight. I think the more you wear your boots the more likely it is that your toes will be screwed. It's normally at about 80days in the boots without many days off that my toes look like somebody has taken a hammer to them and then they never get better as I'm in the boots year round.
I averaged 80 days a season for the past 3 years and never had one toe issue. The reason is my boots really were fitted correctly. If you are suffering as badly as you say your boots are not correctly fitted.
I see it all the time, a customer may be in the correct shell shape and size but the boot is just not fitted correctly. Its not as easy as just getting the right shell, thats the easy part, its the custom work which makes the boots work.
To quickly try to help though, firstly what footbeds are you using?
Lost both my big toenails about a week into the season. I'm such a happy camper when this happens. Seriously though, they will not bother you the rest of the season. If you don't want this to happen, clip yo' toenails, tighten the boots, and don't have shitty ski form (backseat).
Your issue there is the nail is too long. If you touch the end of your toe and you feel nail it's too long. But if you had better fitting boots you could certainly reduce the impact.
