I got a pair of slightly used vokl alleys 2 years ago and have done quite a bit of park skiing on them, but now they are literally falling apart. The left edges are completely worn away underfoot and some of the wood is beginning to wear away as well. The shops I've brought them to for other minor repairs won't even sell me parts because of 'liability'. However, they still are skiable, even though they are missing brakes and edges. I'm not intentionally destroying these skis and my technique on rails is fine. Is this normal?
2 years ago? They have lasted well. I skied with my 11/12 suspects which I bought last season pretty much until the very end. Both noses and tails cracked wide open (fixed that last season), about 30% of the edges had just clipped away and they were still skiable. If you hit rails and kickers that shit happens. Do that a lot and it happens faster.
So you have been hitting rails for two seasons and who knows what the guy before you did to the ski and you think that they have not lasted? Are you kidding? Three seasons on a parks ski is great. Skis are a disposable commodity. They ware out, get over it. Get a new set and be stoked that your second hand skis lasted as long as they have.
I have a pair of 4 year old K2 extremes that dispite my wreckless glade and park skiing have lasted amazingly. the edges are still perfect and the bases are barely scratched. as far as durability goes they are fantastic.
i have a pair of ninthward mxp that i have put around a season and a half on maybe more and all thats wrong is missing edge from not switching skis on one side and missing edge on the other ski that i had to cut out cuz it was sticking out sideways and some very minor delam on the tail of one of the skis. other than that still completely skiable
