its more than just stunts. slopestyle isnt about getting all fucked up and then going and doing fucked up shit with your buddies. its more than that. he doesnt know what he's talking about

frankly i agree with him. Freeskiing isnt a sport, its an activity that is super fun. and it IS just stunts. its not a sport, and shouldnt be viewed as such.

I also think that only sports with results that can be measured ie time, distance, weight etc should be olympic sports...so who knows.

well i guess i sort of agree.. i don't think freesking should be in the olympics and i generally dislike comps because the whole point is to not structure it like that

but i don't agree with him as things are.. because like it or not (i personally don't but can totally see why you would), slope and pipe are extremely similar to other olympic sports and thinking theyre any different is just a weird stigma. i imagine he'll change his tune once he actually watches some and/or his superiors tell him to cut the shit but who cares

also, re: your second part... you don't think gymnastics or figure skating should be olympic sports?

I feel like when this dude tries to explain himself or anything in general, he just keeps burying himself deeper and deeper. What a chump.

A simple "The only reason I likened it to Jackass is because I am not very familiar with the slopestyle skiing/snowboarding scene and the things they can do are crazy to me!"

If he pretty much admitted that he's out of the loop and in over his head with this type of shit, it would have been a lot better.

hell no. Only sports where you objectivly physically beat an opponent should be olympic sports IMO.

games shouldnt be allowed, and anything where degree of difficulty is involved shouldnt be allowed.

I had a lot of hockey friends in high school argue with me that freestyle skiing (or newschool, or freeskiing, or park skiing, or whatever the fuck you wanna call it) wasn't a sport because it was judged. More of an art than a sport when it comes down to subjective judging.

Look at the shit figure skating went through in the 2002 Olympics. I've come to terms that anything involving judges is up in the air as to who is deemed the winner, and when looked at on the scale of the Olympics with such weight, it becomes tough to actually consider it credible.

We are getting off track though. If Costas were to compare us to Nitro Circus it would be way more apt than Jackass. Most of the shit they do in Jackass isn't actually supposed to work. Most of their stunts are designed to fail. This is where I take offence. If he can't tell the difference between calculated stunts with the skill to execute to completion and roller blading with bowling balls in the back of a moving truck, well... he should probably do some homework. It's just down right insulting. If it's your job to pay attention to the sports that are involved in the Olympics and you just brush off ski and snowboard slopestyle like this (and when called out on it, not even be humble enough to just apologize), you need to step down and let someone who isn't so stuck in the oldschool to take over.

Bob, your fucking job as a news anchor is to inform the public on the fucking shit you are reporting about, do your job, go research shit. If you don't know what the fucking sport is about either don't talk about it, or if you are going to talk about admit you don't know what it is about. That way you aren't going to be spilling out nonsensical drivel and misinforming millions of Americans. But I guess nowadays the media doesn't even care about honestly informing people, instead all they report is opinionated and biases. Guess it's not a surprise that it has even spread to sports.

I seriously can't get over his comments in that last video... "People need to get over themselves, I can't believe people would be offended that I can't do my job correctly and then prejudice millions of people in thinking an entire sport is like Jackass". Unbelievable.

I love Bob Costas, but he is a truly very boring guy. No disrespect to baseball (I love baseball too), but the guy got into sportscasting through his love for baseball, and more specifically his love for obscure, remedial, statistical sports facts. Imagine talking to Bob...
"Hey Bob, you ever heard of know Václav Nedomanský?"
"Of course, the Czechoslovakian hockey player! Did you know he played 673 games in North America and scored 73 points with 68 goals in 1978?"

Serioiusly, my college roommate used to have a Bob Costas drinking game where basically you'd watch a Bob Costas commentating video and drink every time Bob dropped an absurdly impressive useless statistic.

Slopestyle is the complete opposite of obscure statistics. That's why slopestyle commentating is so confused and mis-announced most of the time.

"Hey Bob, did you see Vinnie Gagnier's hit over that last jump?
"Of course, it was a double cork with a screamin seamen to mute, but he set the first rotation a little differently with his shoulder so maybe it was a double rodeo screamin seaman. Actually, he might not have gone inverted, so I guess it was a double flatspin screamin seaman. I mean genie, not screamin seaman. Whatever Mike Douglas calls that trick."

The tricks in slopestyle are just way too individual and unique and unregulated and "free" for Bob to understand. But that is great! Having this guy who has an unparallelled knowledge on regulated statistics call slopestlye "Jackass" is a great confirmation for skiing. It IS unique. The format IS unregulated.

Imagine if he'd said that "skiing slopestyle is the perfect embodiment of an Olympic sport. These highly trained athletes go through their slopestyle routine with the grace of a figure skater and the tenacity of a marathoner. It's an exciting evolution from aerials and trampoline, and I'll be looking forward to talking to these young athletes about their Olympic journey."

Then we'd have REAL things to gripe about.
