Michigan state upsets Stanford.

I like how you think this is easy. Have you seen how close the books get it in the nfl? Its like magic how they can predict shit.

Bowls would be hard as fuck to predict. Theres way more factors than a normal game. And teams have a break before so its pretty muttled coming up to it

I hate Alabama and I had a good feeling about them not showing up for the Sugar Bowl after their NC hopes were doused by auburn in the most brutal way. I took OU with the points (+17) and won $50. In hindsight of course I wish I took the money line but my book wasn't even offering one. Win win though when you bet against teams you hate and it comes in.

4 team playoff starts next year

I would like to see the top 16 do a standard playoff, 1v16, 2v15, etc or even top 32 but i dunno if they want college football to go til february ha

Next year. I think the playoff system will be worse than the BCS. People will realize that the BCS wasn't actually that bad once the playoff system is here.

yeah the big issue is more games and having the season go longer. One solution is maybe end the regular season 1 game shorter and take out some of the resting time before bowl games, which would allow a bigger playoff to still end close to when the championship is now. The thing is the NCAA should want this, seeing as almost all of their current profit comes from march madness. Tournaments make them cash, college football is small ball money wise compared to the big dance.

I'd like to see them implement a playoff system like the FCS has. 24 teams, 8 first round byes. First round was on November 30th which was rivalry weekend in FBS, you take out 1 of the 2 bye weeks or get rid of a meaningless non-conference game and start on that weekend. FCS national championship is on the 4th, 2 days before the FBS one. It could definitely be done without extending the season any longer.

I went to an FCS school and that month of playoff games was always so fun. Ridiculously intense games every Saturday to look forward to. And your team can lose a game or two and keep your championship dreams alive. It's not over in September or October if you lose a big conference game early.

yeah i grew up around FCS playoffs at EWU and NAU then went to MSU. All of them have that playoff vibe you get in the NFL and Basketball.

If you go to a 16 or 24 team championship all the good players will go to the NFL after two or three seasons.

Football is too intense on the body to put 18-24 year olds through a 10/11 + 4 game championship. I thought the pre-BCS system was decent. Going to a four game championship won't do much to change the controversy in who goes to the four team championship. If you look at what happened this season what teams would folks put into that championship? First three are pretty easy, FSU, Aubun and Bama. What about the fourth? How do you decide who gets that Ohio State? Stanford? Baylor? Mizzu? I doubt many would have argued for the Michigan State Spartans, but Baylor and Stanford got handled, as did Bama. We have yet to see how Auburn and FSU will stack up against eachother. Oregon proved they are back.

So take away 2 non conference games, and the risk is the same. Also most of the good players already go to the NFL after 2 or 3 seasons, not all of them, but most. And the NFL actually has done quite a bit to stem that, like much smaller rookie contracts that make the NFL less appealing if you're a 3rd round draft pick. Russel Wilson is making 700,000 a year and before the new CBA he'd probably be closer to 3 million. Makes a big difference in keeping players for their junior and senior years.

Div 1 FCS and div 2 play in the same format of playoff, and division 3 has 32 teams instead of 24. The kids are all the same age so you can't say that playing an extra few games is going to take that much of a toll on their bodies. 3 of the 4 NCAA divisions already do it.

And the second point of your post reassures the reason for a lot of people wanting an expanded playoffs in the first place. You said it yourself, 3 teams were shoe-ins, 1 of which was upset by a team not included. Tough to say that any of the teams you listed wouldn't have a legitimate shot at winning a few games in a row and making a run at the title.

The issue I see with only playing one non-conference game (two if you're in the SEC) is that you loose the ability to compare conferences. You can then end up with a decent team in a shit conference taking a slot from a really good team in a tough conference. If the Big10, SEC, PAC12 have a week season a team can easily slip through with a 9-0 season while better teams with an 8-1 or 7-2 seasons don't make the cut.

Just keep the Rose Bowl. I don't give a shit about the other ones.

you lose the need to compare conferences with a playoff system. Only the best from each conference plus some wild cards make it in, so yeah a ton of the SEC and PAC-12 would get shafted, which in the long term would end up balancing out the powers of NCAA div-1. If going to Boise State gives you a better shot at a playoff run than say Georgia or USC, then the entire system will balance out, and probably fairly quickly. Which is a good thing, see NCAA hoops.

Look at the size of the kids playing D-3 ball, and even d-2 ball. Yeah, there is a difference between them and the FBS. I'm bigger than many kids on those teams.

Just checked and both FBS and FCS both play 12 game regular season schedules. The only difference, to my knowledge, is conference championship games in FBS conferences.

So, really, you could not change a thing and a handful of teams would have 1 more game than the rest of division 1 football.

And by take away a non-conference game, I didn't necessarily mean a competitive one from another FBS conference. I meant cupcake games that usually involve an FBS vs FCS team (UGA vs APP State, GA Southern vs Florida etc...)

Although that one time App beat Michigan was probably the greatest game ever. Go 'neers!

ok then FCS div 1, many of them could be on average div-1 teams and they do fine in the playoffs. Keep in mind most teams will only be playing 1 extra game after byes and eliminations, so even if the season goes on for 3-4 extra weekends. only 2 teams will have to play all those games

Theres plenty of FCS players playing in the NFL, Pierre Garcon (D3) and Danny Woodhead (D2) are both having great carriers in the league.

Plus, to win a Superbowl in the NFL, which has the biggest players of any league, you have to win 20 games in 1 season.

So the games argument holds no water in my opinion.

NFL players are generally not 18-22.
Jamis Winston is 19 years old. The male body develops quite a lot between 20-27. There is a reason they call it grown ass man strength.

they need to get more Big 10 teams in these big bowls. Not teams like Michigan state and ohio state that are used to being there. Get Nebraska and Iowa and maybe even Northwestern playing an SEC team that would make a good match up.

I think a college team that is capable of winning a national championship can play 20 games.

For the most part yes. Also players in the NFL are more athletic than those in college as only the absolute best from college make it to the league.

Male 25-30 year olds should be able to out perform and outlast their 19-24 year old body. They should be significantly stronger, but a bit faster as well.

Damn good game to end the BCS era. Glad the Noles won and Jameis was able to silence his critics with that final drive. Damn the BCS couldn't have finished much better than those five games. Not one bad game.
