Today is a sad day, as I must put this heelpiece to rest. The damage:
What it should look like:
I blew that plastic chunk out when I had a tail catch under rotating. Not sure if the -30C temps had anything to do with it, it was plastic that broke, but I doubt it. It was a nasty and odd hit for the binding to take so I've only got myself to blame. Luckily I've got another set on hand and the skis are set up with inserts, so the changeover was quick.
I might look at stepping up to a heftier binding yet, likely the new STH2's. I'd go FKS, but being a ski builder I need a large adjustment range so I can get other people who land within the FP adjustment range, on my skis to get feedback. Can anyone see if the STH2's might have the same issue?
