wearing a helmet, too. just goes to show how real the dangers are even with protection. hope he pulls through, really sucks when someone trying to just enjoy the sport gets hurt like this.
I wonder if the violent crashes he has suffered left him with any residual damages or anything. However the racing world is great for inspecting all aspects of a driver's health after a crash, so I'd say its unlikely that it played a major role.
Really hope he pulls through okay, he's an absolute legend.
I read that in 2009 he had a bad motorcycle accident damaging his lower skull and his spine. Might have something to do with that, but like you said I too doubt that this was left alone by health and safety authorities in motor sport.
He broke his leg in 1999 (I think) at Silverstone during an F1 race. The motorcycle accident injured his spine and skull, but he made enough of a recovery to come out of retirement and race F1 again.
