Yeah fuck yeah questions! Ok, 1. I can't make a definitive answer on this, it's gonna depend but relatively close probably. 2. A lot of skiing but hopefully some narrative stuff, short films, music videos for a few local bands, and skating. 3. Like under 200 or so?
I cant think of a single lens that will be good for all of that and under 200. For follow caming and skating at your price range maybe the rokinon 8mm. Find those for about 220. But then you will need another lense for those other things.
Your kit lens really isnt that bad and i have seen some really good edits using just the kit lens. You could just use that and save up till you have enough for a better lens. You could also look into vintage glass which you can get super cheap on ebay. There is a thread on NS that will tell you everything you will need to know about that.
Don't get a fish eye for your only wide lens. Save up and get the tokina 11-16. Get the older version as the newer version has no changes for canon cameras so isn't worth the extra money.
IMHO the best lens you can get for under 150 bucks for Canon is the 50mm f1.8 II. I got one for about $85 on ebay and its fantastic! really sharp and the depth of field you can achieve with it is awesome. Highly suggest that you get it
