Car Audio Help

Alright, I have a 2005 subaru impreza 2.5 rs, completely stock in the audio department. I'm looking to spend as little money as possible. The system doesn't have to sound amazing, doesn't even have to sound great. I just want to be able to turn up the volume and not hear a bunch of distortion and be afraid of the speakers blowing.
For a head unit I don't need bluetooth or a remote or any of the other fancy features.
So aside from the head unit, what should I do next? I don't really have enough money to put in new speakers, a sub, and an amp.

Pioneer and Kenwood make pretty good head units. I have a JVC in mine that is admittedly starting to die but it's almost 15 years old now I think.

I WOULD suggest you get a new set of speakers though which may need a small amp. That can do wonders to make things sound crisper in my experience.... course, I could just be talking out the ass.

Getting the head unit is the first step and one of the most important.

As for subs and amps.. When I need an amp I go to Pawn America and get one. I don't know if you have Pawn Americas there but your local pawn shop should have good deals on amps. (As long as its not a sketchy place.) DON'T buy new amps..its a waste of money IMO. I got a 1600 watt amp for $90 there, and it powers my two 12s like nothing.

With subs personally I would never buy them used. There are really good deals on Amazon though.

I don't really know what you want in your system. But if you just want it to bump a little, you could probably get one 12 and a box for under $100. And hopefully you can get an amp at the pawn shop.

As for speakers, I usually think that stock speakers are good enough but I guess different people like different things. So if that's your priority then go for that man! It's super fun setting up a system.
