anyone have one before? i landed funny and went down now im out for the season... life sucks sometimes doesnt it? any suggestions on being home and not being able to ski or walk, or stuff to do or how to get your mind not so negative thinking? any comments would be appreciated. im bored out of my mind.......
My mom broke her femur waterskiing when she went up to a jump and it didn't have the water hose running down it.. She just stuck and smacked on the jump.
When I was younger I tried to take on a Cadillac with my Big Wheel, I lost. The rear tire went over my femur pulverizing the bone. I spent 8 weeks in the hospital with my leg in traction while the bone grew back together, Then another 4 months in a cast that went from my arm pits to the toes. Had to relearn how to walk and countless hours at Physical Therapy. Only advice I can give you is be really good to the people taking care of you. Your parents or your friends are going to be vital. That being said a hobby is the way to go. Take an on line class in something you are interested in but never had the time for. Learn a language then when all healed up go and use your new found knowledge.Icelandic would be interesting then go there and wow the ladies with your amazing skills.
What else are you into? For me I'm an animator so injuries mean time to sit and animate. If d something you love and learn to do it really well. Carful though as if you really find something you love to do skiing will become less attractive, which is not always a bad thing after a big injury like a femur break.
Maybe get after effects or photoshop, it can be pretty funny to mess around with. And find a couple of good series, get netflix if you don't have it already..
Broke my femur trying to do a 360 when i was 13 (I'm 23). I have 3 screws in my left leg. When i was in the hospital for 3 days, I was able to watch all of the X-games which was the only televised skiing at the time, so I was stoked as hell since I'm usually skiing when its on. I just read books and magazines. I remember reading all the freeze and freeskier articles numerous times. Bringing back some good & bad memories. The fracture was thru my growth plate and now my left leg is a half inch shorter than my right. Best of luck to you and hopefully a smooth recovery!
yao dude, shredded my leg earlier this season and i'm done for the season as well, I feel your pain. pick an instrument is awesome, take up a hobby or something, but above all keep in mind some positive thoughts. my buddy came to visit in the hospital and he basically said as shitty as it is it coulda saved you from something way worse down the same run, who knows. smoking a ton is a good option to
Sorry to hear bud...I fucked my tib last march and my roommate broke his femur two years before. Saying positive is hard but it's key as soon as you get clear to do something physical you will focus on that...one day at a time....everything is progress, even the small things....
Other than that reading, movies, tv and positive vibes
My roommate did that a few years back. spiral fracture i think, anyways he recovered and shreds hard now. Just beat off a lot and try not to go nuts, and go easy on the painkillers they hook you fast.
If you like computers learn a programming language. I'd recommend starting with VB (Visual Basic) or C# then moving onto C++ which is a touch more complicated but very widely used.
Microsoft Visual Studio Express 2013 is a very good tool to use, there's a bunch of tutorials for it. If you like games then Unity is also a good for making games and just messing about, Shredsauce was made in Unity so it gives you an idea which you can do with Unity. Unity uses C# and JavaScript so you can chose between those two.
challenge your mind with something new..I had a full semester of college ahead of me so that definitely kept me busy..I got into video games pretty hard for awhile...for mine at least, I knew full recovery was going to be around 6 months but i was back skiing groomers the last week in march and i did mine dec.15th..i'm sure you'll get back out before the season is over
