What will happen on January first in Colorado?

I'm in CO right now and am trying to figure out what changes will occur regarding legal bud. Will anyone 21+ be able to buy, even if they're from out of state? I haven't been able to find much info about this

As of 1/1/14 retailers of medical marijuana will be allowed to sell pot to people 21+ as long as they have obtained a license. Last I've heard they have issued 40 something licenses to retailers.

Residents of CO will be eligible to purchase 1 oz of weed from a single retailer per day. Non-residents will be limited to 1/4 oz from a single retailer per day.

Only 10 (12?) retail centers are opening on the 1st, so you are going to look like a total herb waiting in a 6 hour line to buy weed.

This is what is going to happen: for the first few weeks everything will go nice and glazed over but then someone will die because of a dui. The substance in question will be weed. After that, the state will experience a shit storm.

They went about this too quick. I just don't see how it's possible for someone to operate any motor vehicle while high. Some people can't walk straight after they smoke.

Heres almost everything you need too know. Anyone over 21 can legally use cannabis. For those under 21, it is illegal, although minors can gain the benefits of medical marijuana with parental consent. Those with a state ID will be allowed to purchase an ounce each time they go to a pot shop, while tourists will be able to buy a quarter of an ounce. Recreational marijuana will be sold for $25 to $30 per one-eighth of an ounce. Plus there’s a 25% state tax, which is approximately $7 added to the sale. Individuals can grow six plants and households can grow a total of 12 plants for recreational use. People in Denver are allowed to smoke weed on private property with permission from the owner, including the front porch. Will people get fired from their jobs for smoking weed? They can be. Every private company can set its own rules about marijuana. Can you drive stoned? Technically it is illegal and it can result in a DUI, just like alcohol, for anyone with 5 nanograms or more of THC in their system while driving. But marijuana impairment can vary greatly from person to person and is hard to accurately detect. Habitual smokers can retain 5 nanograms of THC in their bloodstream, even if they have not smoked for more than 24 hours. It is illegal to smoke or eat marijuana in a moving vehicle, but it may be carried in the car as long as it is in a closed container.

For minors it is also ZERO tolerance. That means if you are under 21 and they find ANY thc in your system while you have been driving you can get a DUI and THC can be in your blood for over a day after smoking. My friend hadn't smoked in 6 hours and he said he wasn't high and got pulled over, the officer smelled some weed and arrested him and took him to the hospital where they drew blood and he came up with 2 nano grams of thc in his system and they gave him a DUI. Basically don't smoke in the car at all, you can get pulled over for any little thing and the stink can last a little while. Don't give the officers reasons to think you are high and driving.

They won't be able to tell? Wtf kind of question is that. It's a possession thing now, not a source thing. If you're over 21 and live in CO, you can possess an ounce. If you're a non-resident over 21, you can possess a 1/4 ounce.

If you're under 21 and high
If you're smoking in public
If you're smoking while driving
If you're smoking then driving
If you exceed your possession limit
If you get caught purchasing weed illegally

Then you need to worry.

Sounds like bullshit. First, smell isn't enough to convict on its own unless they also found bud or paraphernalia . Second, there's no way he had a test done without consenting, in which case it's his own damn fault for agreeing to do it knowing he'd fail.

Of course they found bud and paraphernalia, but it was in a backpack. Dude its just like if you get pulled over and your car reeks of beer and they find beers. Instead with bud they don't really need sign of impairment. If they think your stoned your fucked because thats basically enough for them to test you especially if you are a minor. You can refuse the test but there are consequences for refusing to take the test.

I know multiple kids that have gotten DUI's and have been at or below 5 nanograms and some sat they say they were not stoned at all.

Just don't smoke in the car, if you do that your running an unnecessary risk.

This was right after the law was passed, I'm not sure if they require you to go to the hospital and get a test done still but thats what they did, its no lie. Don't smoke in your car, I know too many people who have gotten pulled over for that.

Washington is going to have Federally run stores by June. 1 ounce buying limit. They say a gram will be around $12 + taxes (25%) so a gram will be around $15 maybe more? The washington liquor control board are acting like a bunch of greedy drug dealers. For example they wanted to funnel medical marijuana in to the recreational market so Medical patients would buy from the federal government. Recreational cannabis, is not medical cannabis. They are just trying to capitalize. They need to cut down the prices this shits legal. There are people growing weed illegally in their house and selling buds for $5-$6 a gram. How do they expect growers to want $3 per per gram then they add $6 of taxes per gram to the retailers? The state makes more money than the growers per gram. People are going to go to the black market if the prices are will be high. Of course many adults will buy from stores what ever the price may be.

Washington needs to cut the prices down and just sit back for a few years. The money will come. They think its OK to sell $15 grams and dispensaries that do that are out of their mind selling to old people that believe they are buying good weed. But its no different than the best dispensaries in Seattle selling $25-30 eighths no tax.

At least you have that option. Christmas Eve night neither of the 3 dudes I buy from answered and I had to spend a night and a ski trip with no buds. Yeah poor planning for me but one of them usually answers. I didn't have a store as a back-up. I would of glady paid an extra 15 that night to walk into a store with a BOMB ass selection of errlll

Yeah, thats what I think people will do. Especially younger people. Older people who do not want to break any laws, who have the money and don't know where to get weed, they will be buying from these stores. If they lowered their taxes to make the weed cheaper just by a few dollars I am sure they would make more money. people don't want to pay more than they are paying in an illegal market. Part of the reason weed is so expensive is because you can get arrested for growing it. The growers growing legal cannabis aren't going to get arrested and are licensed by the state selling cheaper weed, but all the taxes make it expensive.

even it was the same id follow the law, but from my understanding growing legally is much cheaper since you don't have to insulate against choppers and take other precautions, and the risk is gone so labor is less. If WA stores sold for even 8-9 a g, it would kill the illicit market. Idk what the liqueur board expects to happen, the biggest group of weed smokers (18-30) are not going to be giving them any money at all.

It's this kind of attitude that will make the system fail. People need to support the legal shops if they want it to stay legal. Nothing is set in stone right now, the feds are just using a few states as guinea pigs to see how everything works. If everyone is too cheap and the black market stays too relevant, who knows if it'll stay legal. I say pay a few extra bucks, don't run the risk, and don't help fund all the violence already associated with illegal drugs. You wouldn't buy some moonshine from a sketchy guy with no liquor license because its a tad cheaper than a bottle in a store would you?

I agree with you, but they can't lower their prices too much, otherwise the legal stuff will be trafficked into other states. Its really a tricky business to tackle but people need to be conscious of their decisions when it comes to buying weed.

Is there a source for that statement? I'd imagine they can not lower prices because it is a similar price as black market plus the tax. The state and dispensary need to make money. Supply and demand though, illegal or not, bud is being moved in heavy numbers from legal states to the black market. Lowering the price doesn't make it more likely for trafficking, that is happening no matter what. The idea is that people will start to adapt to dispensaries as they become common and the penalties for illegal sales are enforced..

It was some article in the new Yorker magazine, i don't feel like digging it up but it went into the details of just how delicate the economic side of this whole thing could be. I might be regurgitating it incorrectly so it's worth checking it out if you're interested
