He is 65 but still skis like he's 30, and he needs new skis, but I don't really know where to look. He doesn't want twin tips or pow skis, just some really solid all mountain skis that he can shred on. If anyone could give me some ideas of what skis to look into that would be awesome, thanks!
So many awesome skis he could shred. What has he skied before? what kind of ski does he enjoy? Give a bit more info of what he is after and we can help narrow the search.
He wants a one ski quiver that can hold an edge on groomers, plow through crud, and ski fresh snow also. He has some 10 year old Nordica typical old man skis at the moment and he wants to upgrade and experience how much ski technology has changed in the last decade.
my number one recommendation for a good all mountain ski that is not a twin tip is the Rossignol Experience 88. It's not too fat, and not too skinny with camber underfoot and alittle bit of early rise so he can still shred on the pow days as well as the slushy ones. Its a stiff ski so the edge holds super well on hard pack, and I guarantee he'll love it
Blizzard Brahma, Bonafide, Cochise, or Bodacious, depending on where you live/how wide of a ski he wants.
Bonafide is probably your best bets at a true all-mountain ski as it's 98 mm underfoot. Wide enough to get a decent amount of float in pow, but not too wide that you're sacrificing a lot of performance on groomers
Yeah look at the blizzard bushwhacker and bonifide. Also look at the salomon q90 and q98. The Rossi exp 88 and 98 are very good too. See if he can demo some of those and see if any suit his style of skiing.
If he wants metal in his skis, go with the Bonafide/Brahma or the Mantra/Kendo. If he wants a lighter weight ski, go with one of the Nordica Hell and Back skis or maybe something in the salomon q line, like the 98 or 90.
Idk why the mantra gets such a hard charging rep. I mean, I skied it for a year and it is stable on groomed, but I think there is much harder charging skis in every other arena. I know a ton of old guys who ski on the mantra and love them.
Prpphet 90. I know it's a twin, but it's a fantastic all mountain ski. My dad loves them.
Also, the soul rider. I know it's hyped as a buttery park ski but it is completely opposite. It's a stiff old man cruiser, every adult who skis it raves about it.
Yeah my dad rides the Volkl Kendo. Its got metal in it for extra stability and carves really nicely. 89 underfoot which is perfect for plowing crud/riding east coast ice. My dad needed a burly ski since hes pretty heavy and has broken skis in the past. These seem just right. Rossi experience 88 is also pretty sick but has no metal in it
