Wood Rails

The mountain I ski at just set up a entire wood park and...
I was just curious if you ski a wooden down rail the same way you would ski a metal down rail?

Thoughts?

Yeah all you have to worry about is your front edges so just lean back a little bit or detune your edges a bit and youll be fine. I love skking through the the mount snow one the rails are just a little slower but much smoother in my mind.

Pretty much.  It's going to have a different feel to it but the mechanics of sliding it are the same as a steel rail..  you just have to make sure to keep your leading edges up.

yeah no margin for error. for example if you tend to bs switch up and land a little bit on your front edges you might be fucked on a wooden rail whereas a metal rail will continue to slide smoothly without even noticing a thing

I wouldn't recommend doing them yourself. Go and get your edges tuned at a shop, preferably with a 0 bevel. You also want your bases to be fast so I use mr. zogs sex wax.



But really wood rails are awesome just watch your downhill edge and make sure your shit isn't sharp. At least underfoot. Try and slid something that isn't high off the ground and seems pretty smooth.



WATCH THE FUCK OUT in the spring though. Warm weather wood rails get interesting.

Wood rails are super sketchy, unless they're icy.

If you catch an edge you're most likely gonna fall hard.. Even more so than when you catch an edge on metal.

Below freezing, the water in the wood is frozen and the wood is a little harder.
Above freezing the water melts, makes the wood soggy and soft. I think in a terrain park they finish the rails in like bowling alley lacquer or something to make them slicker. They are probably still sketch if there are a ton of chips and burrs from getting hit a lot.

I spent a almost a full day a few years ago trying wooden rails. It was terrible. I don't even try them anymore =\
