Hey guys. So I saw this on reddit and normally I just skip over them but this one caught my attention.

This guy Lucas has been live streaming his self playing games like Minecraft and League of Legends for hours now. He is doing this on a website for donations to a hospital charity. Reddit caught wind of it and has topped his original goal of only $100 dollars nearly 7 times.

What really resonated with me, however, is the fact that this is his second live stream... the first of which only raised $13 dollars. Regardless of such a poor turnout, he's doing a second stream right now and before the post on reddit he probably wasn't expecting anything over $30 or so dollars.

I'm asking you all, if you have even 5 dollars to spare, to donate to his fundraiser. I donated every cent left in my paypal account. This could make his holiday season that much better, and even more importantly, benefit the children at the hospital he is raising money for.

What's the point of the streaming? Why not just donate to the hospital or anywhere else. I don't really see the point of this streaming being a huge deal. Inb4 I'm the grinch or scrooge and I ruined everyone's christmas.

I saw on real sports on hbo that often times really good gamers do streams where they educate ppl trying to get better, usually for a charge so maybe its something like that

Its just a mechanism to get people interested in donating. If he walked around asking for donations it wouldn't be as successful as doing something like this cause gaming will attract a large internet audience. He's not a professional gamer or anything, he's just doing something he likes in order to raise money for a good cause.

it's similar to those people who bike across countries to raise money, just in a lesser form.

I fucking hate these people so much.   Honestly in my mind, they're just being selfish.  All he's doing is sitting on his ass all day playing video games.  IMO, he's probably doesn't even care about the charity; he just wants to gain extra views for his channel.   If there were some self-sacrifice involved, I would respect him a great deal more, but I can't take him seriously if all he's doing is playing video games and squabbling for money

My point was, he's doing it for wrong reasons.   I feel like some kid that just suddenly declares that he wants money for his charity because he is playing video games shouldn't be taken seriously.

This is the second one he's done, the first of which only got 13 bucks. Clearly the first one didn't earn him any more viewers, so that's not his motivation. Even if it is his motivation, he's streaming on a third party website... not on his own channel. So by gaining viewers all he's essentially gaining from it is more money to donate to the charity.

He's not suddenly wanting money because he plays videogames, he's playing videogames on a website specified for donations in order to gain money for a charity. While i'm sure he enjoys playing videogames, he definitely has better things to do than play live streamed games for 25 hours straight.


and ultimately, why does it matter - he's raising money for charity. You're not required to subscribe to his channel or anything if you donate. In fact, most people wouldn't do that because he's not an amazing gamer or anything anyways.

This is where you and I disagree.  Many people .....don't have better things to do than play video games all day.  Not only that but by flaunting your "charitable acts" it brings in viewers/subscribers.   Which is why I believe he would be doing something like that.  I mean, if it involved at least a moderate amount of self-sacrifice, I would trust in his good intentions, but it doesn't.

This kid could probably go door to door and raise way more money, not hating on it, it just doesn't seem that this is anywhere near the best way to fundraise

Because he's possibly using a charity as a means to achieve his own desires.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking his actions. Yeah donate more money, but just don't call him a charitable person.  Also, way to throw some petty insults in there.....like usual

No not really.  I just didn't feel like arguing with an entire thread of NSers.  Clearly, I have an unpopular opinion and most likely the majority of you will never agree with my view.  Not gonna fill an entire thread with arguments XD I got better things to do

I have a friend who streams himself playing League of Legends live for fundraising for different charities too but his tactic for fundraising is playing for 24 hours straight and he doesn't raise much but at least its for a good cause.

How is that achieving his own desires?? He could obviously play video games all day whenever he wants, it's not like he has to be hooked up to a live stream taking donations through a third party to play?

yeah this is my view on it but it's cool that someone has a different view and doesn't agree. you don't have to donate if you don't want to and i respect that guys view but i politely disagree. regardless guys thanks for taking the time to check out the channel and potentially donate. if i got even one person on here to donate to this kids cause i'll be happy.
