dead heads of ns! i always had a couple dead songs in my library, the more popular ones shakedown st and scarlet begionias, etc, then one of my friends saw furthur over the summer, and out of curiosity i looked them up and started to learn more about the long strange trip that is the grateful dead. havent listened to much else since then, and if furthur goes back on tour im gonna try to get to a few stops. favorite show has got to be winterland new years eve 1978, or june 14 1969 just because of the dark star. need to listen to more bootlegs of full shows, dead.net is a great resource for looking them up. some of my personal favorite songs are

That stereotype always annoys me. Yeah sure they live/lived alternative lifestyles. However, Uncle Sam has a way of magnifying hate against the anti-culture to ensure they can keep power. So, the next time you make fun of somebody being "hip" just brainstorm whose side are you really on? Is the government really on your side? Or do they have you brainwashed to follow their rules? Maybe everything you were ever taught was a lie...

I know this post is a few months old, but The Grateful Dead are actually one of my favourite bands and I love the way they lived (well, some of the way they lived).

Usually anything post- brent doesnt even get a listen but i gave this one a shot and oh my. Jerry and vince were fucking on this day, row jimmy is unlike any other one I have heard, nice terrapin and help/slip/franklins is unique with an extra long vince solo in slipknot. Great version of althea too, very upbeat you can tell jerry was lovin it

Hahahaha made this thread after like a month of being into the dead, obvious noob was obvious

Would have gone to dead and co fenway on friday if I had known they were gonna do the $25 release on the day of the show, but I already had bought tickets to another show up in NH for friday night. Had a friend there who said it was awesome. Mayer shreds

Hoping for some northeast JRAD shows this fall/ winter, they are doing more interesting work with the dead's catalog than anyone has since '95.

OregonDeadI have a huge collection but I always love listening to a real head spin tracks on the radio. Every weekend I try to catch The Grateful Dead and Friends Saturdays from noon-2 on 90.7 KBOO FM and Dawn of the Dead with concert Dave Sundays at 8am on 92.3 KGON . Both of these shows come in clear in the Timberline parking lot. If you are not in Oregon I recommend streaming these shows online. Keep on truckin' friends.


Concert Dave got bumped to 5am. Still on Sunday mornings. Can be hard to get up for it but it is one of the best hours of radio on the air. Might be easier to listen if you stream it from a different time zone at http://www.kgon.com/

I was hoping for another Oregon show. Boulder will probably be a blast but I don't know if a summer trip to CO is in the cards.
I downloaded the Portland show from last summer on black Friday but still haven't listened to it yet. Gonna be pretty fun to hear it again.

My Dad is a huge Deadhead and when I was 7 years old I saw the Grateful Dead play in Seattle in 1995. It was his last tour and he died 2 months later after playing in Seattle.
