Snowmaker appreccation thread

Any mountain, like mine, that doesn't get much natural snow would never be able to open if it weren't for these guys. They walk up and down the mountain all night checking snowguns in the cold and wet so that the resort can open in the morning. I just want to thank them.

Your welcome.  It's been a shitty start at Mammoth this year so we're making it happen.  For any of you that think snowmaking is an easy job, hit me up. You can try it out at Mammoth for a season.  It'll be fun...

Ehhh. We've had a really good start, from the past few storms we got about 20 inches here in Maine but snowmaking has made at least that much, obviously.

It really depends on the mountain and the night but most of snowmaking is down time at the places I have worked. Lots of chilling mixed with hard work.

It's a rough job. And a generally thankless one at that.

Funny story: the mountain I grew up at in CT (Mohawk Mtn) was the first place to use snowmaking. The first machine was also patented in CT. At least the state was good for something.

Our hill usually has enough snow but not enough for any good jumps. The I show up on opening day this year and one run has 3 piles of snow that are are being turned into the first jump line I've ever seen at the hill that wasn't little piles of snow in randome places.

Are they still not getting snow? I knew they were hurting early but wouldn't have though they were still in drought mode. Hopefully mother nature hooks it up for everyone n january. A lot of places could use a good winter after a few not so stellar ones.

I appreciate the job they do. My friend did it for a few seasons, its a shitty job and i solute all of those who do it, so that i can enjoy the spoils of their labor, at cut throat prices of course, but thats not their fault.

Lake Louise Snowmaker here checking in, It is a pretty brutal job, with shitty hours, I'm currently on my fourth 14-hour night shift here and the only thing keeping me awake is riding a snowmobile while soaking wet down a cold mountain.

Oh and yeah, ;D we might be known to party a little too hard on days off, haha
